About this listen

There is a longing that Truth cannot tell,
a yearning that Fact cannot satisfy,
a thirst that only Myth may sate.
There, is a Valley.
(El Viejo)

With this mysterious e-mailed message, a New Age researcher is led toward a mysterious Valley in New Mexico, along the way finding an enigmatic slab of stone carved with mysterious Native American rock art, and encountering a strange shamanic guide, El Viejo (the “Old Man”).

As he journeys through The Valley carrying the carved stone slab back to its ancient location, he fights for his life against men who want the stone for themselves. Along the way, his path enlightened by El Viejo at times of crisis, he learns the true meaning of the heavy treasure he carries, discovering the nature of his own existence, and hints of lost civilizations, alternate realities, and the hidden history of mankind.

More of a self help book

I enjoyed the journey that Arian Andrews takes us on and I feel it's more of a self discovery journey. A modern day Christmas Carol set in the dessert chased by bad guys.

Deep Thinking and Extraordinary Topics

•audiobook•

Every now and again, we all ponder who we are, how coincidences or fate or faith have woven our experiences to mold expectations.

The Valley of the Shaman is an excellent story. Deep with mysticism or religious undertones combined with science and sci fi about Man and mankind.
Historical stories are mentioned, including Ponce de Leon’s quest for the fountain of youth. Contemplation of alien interactions with Man are also discussed between El Viejo and the educated, well travelled researcher.

I loved the writing. I loved the descriptions. The subtle danger with the villains did not shadow the life’s lessons learned and debated.

From a literary standpoint, it’s written and delivered in the classic majestic art of Island of the Blue Dolphins or My Side o the Mountain for a more mature audience. Although interactions between our Main Character and the Shaman provide dialogue, the reader is walking in the shoes of the narrator and inside his intelligent head.

A short listen, it gives an abundance of food for thought to chew or ponder.

It did take a few tries to adapt to the narrator, but in conclusion, he was an ideal choice for the content.

The epilogue eludes to another book. I can only hope and keep an ear out for it!

Interesting story.

This is a creative story with a great variety of characters which makes it an entertaining read.

The Narrator does a good job in making the story come alive.

quite good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was actually pretty good. The story is interesting and somewhat unique. The narrator does a great job of bringing the story to life. I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers. Honestly, though, this is worth checking out if you'd like something fairly unique.

One of the best I've ever listened to

Honestly, this book rocked. I was a little hesitant due to the less-than-exciting cover, but all the deep philosophy mixed with some great action really hooked me about an hour in. The narrator does an excellent job as well. Highly recommended!
