Publisher's summary

A skeletal hand is unearthed in the vault under the Pump Room in Bath, England, near the site where Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. Then a skull is excavated. The bones came from different corpses, and one is modern. Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond must solve a series of crimes including murder and forgery, requiring a knowledge of history, 19th-century art, literature...and human nature.

Good until end

90% of the book was interesting. However, the ending was wrapped up quickly and took away from the rest of the book. Unimpressed with Michael Healy,s reading - Peter Diamond voice poorly done. Would have preferred the narrator from the second book in the series.

Love this series

Totally fun. Smart, funny, clever. Love the characterization, decent plotting, worth the time (and I’m picky.)

It’s not you, it’s me.

Peter Lovesey is an excellent author, the Peter Diamond series is truly magnificent.
However I simply cannot persist with this particular audiobook, as the performance is not aligned with My Enjoyment Expectation.
Alas, Simon Prebble has “well and truly” set the standard, and I’m unwilling to compromise, even for Diamond.

Presenter disapointing

A great story made unbearable to listen to by lousy presenter. Sorry.
Remake the book with Prebble!

Another winner!

I’ve read all the Peter Diamond series and now I am trying the audio version. These books work equally well in either medium.

another good story in the series

that's typical of some of these British novels the backstory is pretty extensive and all the characters and everything that happens woven together for a nice good yarn

Smartly written

The Vault is another solid police procedural in the Peter Diamond series. Detective Diamond has a logical and calm way of working his cases that I find comforting. I feel relaxed knowing that I can rely on author Peter Lovesey to wrap up the mystery by the end of the book.

I also like learning about the rich history of Bath, England as I work my way through this book series. In The Vault, I found out more about Mary Shelley and William Blake.

Audible included this book for free with my membership. The narrator Michael Healy was good except for his attempt to speak in a US American accent for some characters. It was not even close to sounding realistic.
