Publisher's summary

Dear Listener,

Nobody in their right minds would listen to this particular book about the lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire on purpose, because each dismal moment of their stay at the village of V.F.D. has been faithfully and dreadfully recorded on this program.

I can think of no reason why anyone would want to listen to a book containing such unpleasant matter as migrating crows, an angry mob, a newspaper headline, the Duluxe Cell, and some very strange hats.

It is my solemn and sacred occupation to research each detail of the Baudelaire children's lives and write them all down, but you may decide to do some other sacred and solemn thing, such as listening to another book instead.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

Critic reviews

"Tim Curry gives distinct character vocalizations without compromising the rich undertones of his voice. He keeps the tongue-in-cheek humor and mockery of this children's series refreshing rather than redundant. Curry reads the backstory from previous books clearly, so a listener unfamiliar with the earlier novels may understand this one....A wholly enjoyable listening experience." (AudioFile)

Excellent voice acting

Tim Curry's performance is on another level. I still don't know how one man can breathe life into over a dozen characters.

The best in the series so far

I had toyed with the idea of picking up these books on occasion at various places. After I heard the interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air (on my 40th birthday no less), I had to give these a try. This not just kidstuff (although they are completely kid appropriate). These are so much FUN!!! My husband and I listen to them over and over and laugh our heads off. Misery loves company -- and I am hooked. You'll never look at crows -- or handymen -- the same way again.
