About this listen

Ivy Cameo Johnson, an oil baroness from Houston, has wealth that draws men like flies to honey, yet she also possesses intelligence and an awkwardness that runs them off.

John William Dalhart, a Texas oil baron himself, out to prove his father and new business partner both wrong, was also born into wealth. There’s been no end to the women interested in him, but is it for what he has rather than who he is?

Neither has met nor knows about the other. Until fate, and their meddling fathers, intervene. Ivy makes a bet with her friend that she most certainly can work in a menial, minimum wage job for a month. Meanwhile, Will picks up the challenge thrown out by his father and Red Marshall daring him to live in a small town and get a woman to say she’d marry him while knowing nothing about his wealth.

Both wind up in Murray County, Oklahoma—Cameo as the manager of the Strawberry Moon, a small burger joint on Highway 77; Will, a chief cook and dish washer. She thinks he’s in the witness protection program. He thinks she’s a poor country girl from the boonies. But they’ve agreed there’ll be no past or future…only today while they’re working at the Moon.

When the month is over they’ll both go their separate ways and never look back at what they shared. What they don’t realize is that their future is together, in work, and in love.

Great author, ruined by narrator

Wonderful Carolyn Brown, love her stories and this didn’t disappoint, worst narrator I’ve ever heard … painful.

This is a first, poorly executed story, poor editing and terrible narration.

First, the narrator did a poor job, she did not do the story justice. Second, the editing was terrible, so many sentences were repeated twice that if I could I would insist on a refund. Finally, the story had a good plot however, it was poorly executed.

Great story

Loved the story, Carolyn Brown is a great writer, had read the Kindle version awhile back. But the narration was at times stilted and generally flat.

Mark 12:17

“Let what is Caesar’s belong to Caesar, and what is God’s belong to God.” what a great story of Luv being more powerful than money. Very refreshing and another dynamite book from Miss Carolyn Brown. God bless you, lady!

the story as always with a Carolyn Brown book is wonderful

the woman reading the book was absolutely awful. she must have been related to someone in the audio department to get the job. she needs remedial reading and acting classes. she constantly paused when there was no reason and used inflections in the wrong places. she ruined what would have been a great book.

Loved the story itself, however —-

Had I read the first few reviews prior to purchase, I would have passed on by. I LOVE Carolyn’s stories, but I have to agree with everyone- the narrator was painful. It was as if she read with a ruler - line by line. I will be sure and read the reviews before purchasing again. What happened to Brittany Presley. She does an outstanding job for the stories!!

Very poor choice in narrator !!

I have heard 6 year olds who can read better than this !! I cannot believe Miss Brown approved this unless it was some kind of favor to someone in financial peril !! Didn't someone listen to this ? Very distracting and disappointing ! I love Miss Brown's work but I have never heard one of her books read so poorly !

worst audiobook

I admit I rush through this book just to get done with it. I couldn't stand the readers voice and lack of tone for the characters. I may have to read this one on my own.

Did Carolyn Brown really write this?

Mercifully short. A great premise and kept wanting it to get better. To be honest, maybe it was the performance. Possibly the worst ever experienced from Audible. I don’t think it was read beforehand. Sentences chopped up and many mispronounced words. Save your time.
