About this listen

A brilliant, shattering, and convincing account of United States-backed suppression of political and human rights in the Third World... It relentlessly dissects the official views of Establishment scholars and their journals. The "best and brightest" pundits of the status quo emerge from this audiobook thoroughly denuded of their credibility.

I was not expecting this book to be so timely. It was suggested by the app after I bookmarked The Jakarta Method. Though the above engages with recently released material, The Washington Connection and Third World Fascism is largely based upon first hand reporting in the media here and abroad, though often buried in such a way as to escape notice. Its timeliness is its foundational explanation for the U.S. refugee crisis, especially from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador writ large. Its charm, if one can call it that, is the matter of factness, with an occasional wry comment or question. The authors present the record of what was publicly available and statements from the Congressional Record and other documentary evidence as events unfold chronologically. The breadth of the repercussions of this record of post-War U.S. junior partners abroad, whose activities in the violent repression of popular democratic political movements and the expulsion of indigenous peoples from traditional lands through terrorist means and actors, funded, armed, and trained by the U.S. from Eisenhower through Reagan presidencies, is eye opening and necessary for understanding our current situation.

The history covered here spans a lot of ground and the production makes it easier to follow and stay interested.

Excellent narration of a dense material

A good listen that never stood still for too long and yet is filled with relevant and little known information that I could follow. I can't wait to listen to it again.

great book

In one way some of the issues addressed in this have improved, as a handful of the countries mentioned seem to have improved significantly in their respect for human rights.

Outside that handful it's sad that almost all the others haven't. It's one thing to know how long the US has been supporting fascists and another to hear it in detail.

It's unfortunate how little has changed

Some good facts. Was probably good for me. Incredible leftist slant to it. Probably some fudged information and definitely a lot that was not said.

Incredibly Leftist Slant
