About this listen

This program includes a prologue and epilogue read by the author.

Obstruction of justice, the specter of impeachment, sexism at work, shocking revelations: Jill Wine-Banks takes us inside her trial by fire as a Watergate prosecutor.

It was a time, much like today, when Americans feared for the future of their democracy, and women stood up for equal treatment. At the crossroads of the Watergate scandal and the women’s movement was a young lawyer named Jill Wine Volner (as she was then known), barely 30 years old and the only woman on the team that prosecuted the highest-ranking White House officials. Called "the mini-skirted lawyer" by the press, she fought to receive the respect accorded her male counterparts - and prevailed.

In The Watergate Girl, Jill Wine-Banks opens a window on this troubled time in American history. It is impossible to read about the crimes of Richard Nixon and the people around him without drawing parallels to today’s headlines. The audiobook is also the story of a young woman who sought to make her professional mark while trapped in a failing marriage, buffeted by sexist preconceptions, and harboring secrets of her own. Her house was burgled, her phones were tapped, and even her office garbage was rifled through.

At once a cautionary tale and an inspiration for those who believe in the power of justice and the rule of law, The Watergate Girl is a revelation about our country, our politics, and who we are as a society.

A Watergate prosecutor's personal history.

Excellent. The history of women in the legal profession, 1960's-80''s, along with the Watergate story, and her own personal tale.

Great Memoir and Bio in one

Excellent gift for a daughter who is considering law. The ability to self-determine the course of her life comes through. I was impressed by the variety of her jobs and accomplishments and fun she had. Also I think that there is something to be learned from this history. What if Trump resigns and Pence Pardons him as Ford did Nixon?

A warrior for women vía a living example of self respect. Some hard truth; makes stark how much worse our government is today.

Inspiring. A warrior for women and diversity.

Even better than I wished for

My only small complaint is I would have loved Jill Wine Banks to read (even though reader was good) because it had so much of her personality. A nice blend of history and learning her perspective on events.

History Repeating Itself But No GOP Patriots

Great book, and the audio makes you feel like you are in the rooms where it all happened! When I think about what Nixon and his cronies did and our current situation, it almost seems quaint - but the law breaking and grifting is out of control. sadly we don't have any Republican statesmen standing up for our country.

Absolutely phenomenal!

This book is a wonderful look at presidential crimes by Richard Nixon and the work done to hold him accountable. It also weaves in the unique life story of Jill Wine-Banks and how she grew to become one of the great legal voices of our time. You can't go wrong with this incredible book!

Female POV on fascinating political story

I’ve always been fascinated by Watergate because I couldn’t believe something like that happened in my lifetime. In the Watergate Girl, Jill shares her integral (famous) piece with Nixon’s secretary from her pov. I also enjoyed her experience being the only woman on a team of lawyers + all the behind the scenes action during the trial prep. Great read!

I started slow because I live in a home of trumper

I don't have ALOT of privacy because I live with my Granddaughter, her fiancee and my 1st Great Grandchild.
I have the audio book because I broke my Neck decades ago and I get bad headaches if I read much. Today was a beautiful 76 degrees and blue. skies so I sat on my lounge chair in the back yard and listen to the Watergate Girl. The only complaint. is that I didn't narrate the whole book. I just started seeing u on msnbc a few years ago and I love your great brooches. My Father had told me Nixon was like every other President but he just got caught. He died in the late 1970s so he never got to go thru 45s 4 years or he may have felt different. If u feel like writing another book I would love to listen to it just narrate it yourself. keep enjoying your life with your 2nd husband he sounds ALOT better than your 1st.
