About this listen

Former pararescue jumper Orion Starr is haunted by the memory of a rescue gone wrong. He may be living alone in Alaska now, but the pain of his failure - and his injuries - has followed him there from Afghanistan. He has no desire to join Hamilton Jones' elite rescue team, but he also can't shirk his duty when the call comes in to rescue three lost climbers on Denali.

Former CIA profiler and psychiatrist Jenny Calhoun's yearly extreme challenge with her best friends is her only escape from the guilt that has sunk its claws into her. As a consultant during a top-secret mission to root out the Taliban, she green-lighted an operation that ended in ambush and lives lost.

When her cathartic climb on Denali turns deadly, she'll be forced to trust her life and the lives of her friends to the most dangerous of heroes - the man she nearly killed. Her skills and his experience are exactly what's needed to prevent another tragedy - but in order to truly set Orion free from his painful past, Jenny will have to reveal hers. They'll have to put their wounds behind them to survive, but at what cost? Leap into action with this high-octane, breakneck new series from best-selling author Susan May Warren.

So interesting storyline!

This is good drama and an intriguing adventure... Learned a lot and really enjoyed the characters. Glad its part of a trilogy so we get to continue.
SMA just tends to make all her main characters in need of emotional healing in their romantic lives and it get a bit frustrating ... especially when the story itself is so enjoyable!!

Frustrating

Tge heroine was a character i did not like; she manipulated and led her friends into dangerous situations and then there were so many mountain crossing incidents it felt totally unbelievable and frustrating

on the edge of my seat, but

from one writer to another please be careful about the phrases "in her/his bones." You use it a lot. It's a great descriptor but not so often in your next book , which I look forward to listening to.

What a ride!

MY TAKE
This is my first Warren book. I really enjoy the story. It is definitely a Christian tale, and some of the characters talk about their faith a lot. If that's an issue for you, this may not be a good choice for you. But if you're okay with people being religious, you're in for quite a ride! If you've ever wanted an entertaining way to learn about mountain climbing, this is a great option.

My word! This story has so much action. Talk about all the bad things happening to these women and then the men who are sent in to do the rescue. It's quite intense at times. And heartbreaking when they're in situations where they think they're going to die and bear their souls.

The story arc for this book (Orion and Jenny) is resolved, but there's obviously more going on that will be resolved in subsequent books. I'm really looking forward to it.

My one complaint is some of the angst seemed to go on too long.
