About this listen

In this sweet regency romance, two star-crossed lovers must contend with families on either side of the violent clash between progress and tradition.

Henry Stockton, heir to the Stockton fortune, returns home from three years at war seeking refuge from his haunting memories. Determined to bury the past, he embraces his grandfather’s plans to modernize the family’s wool mill, ignoring the grumblings from local weavers. When tragedy strikes shortly after his arrival, Henry will have to sort truth from suspicion if he is to protect his family’s livelihood and legacy.

Loyalty has been at the heart of the Dearborne family for as long as Kate can remember, but a war is brewing in their small village, one that has the power to rip families asunder - including her own. As misguided actions are brought to light, she learns how deep her father’s pride and bitterness run, and she begins to wonder if her loyalty is well-placed.

As unlikely adversaries, Henry and Kate must come together to find a way to create peace for their families, their village, and their souls - even if it means risking their hearts in the process.

NOT chick-lit. Great story, not so great narrator

This is a very good story about the war between weavers and mill owners during a transition period of industrialization. There were several subplots as well as the budding romance that requires the entire book to finally resolve itself. Well worth the credit and the time to listen.
The narrator reads very well but there were times when I couldn't tell which character was speaking in a two-way conversation between a man and a woman.
This is NOT chick lit. I enjoyed it very much.

Great listen

Loved this story. Gives us a different perspective on the industrial revolution. It was hard to accept change and technology. Sometimes tore families apart.

I believe this is based on true story

My relatives may have been among the weavers. A very difficult time for them to earn a living. It is sad that neither side communicated need to develop new means together.

Enjoyable Romance

Although a bit predictable, the characters, story and the narrator’s delivery made this a very enjoyable story. I listened in one afternoon while I completed my tasks. It kept me thoroughly entertained.

Captivating

Sarah has a keen sense of detail. The story felt fresh and new. Just when I thought she’d forgotten something, leaving me questioning, the answers were woven in. Excellent! I couldn’t stop listening. Bravo to the reader, too.

lovely and intriguing. I love the time period .

Nice and Interesting story, difficult to follow

This was a very nice story. Just difficult to follow. I’ve listened to hundreds of books and have never had such a hard time keeping track of who was who. I would not want to discourage anyone from listening. I’m sure my difficulty is partly due to the fact that I listen 20 minutes at a time throughout every day and the narrator didn’t change up the character voices for each one. The women, older men, young men all had their own voices but that was pretty much the extent. . I recommend creating a character guide to refer back to periodically throughout the story.
