About this listen

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's immortal detective returns for ten puzzling cases ranging from his earliest career to his final bows.

"The Adventure of the Improbable American" tells of Sherlock's first U.S. friend, while "The Adventure of the Christmas Lesson" recounts Holmes's and Watsons first Christmas together.

Other cases depict the Great Detective endeavoring to untangle the struggle between mudlarks over a diamond ring of great value, and then unraveling the mystery of a nobleman found seated before his own fireplace—without his head!

The early 20th century finds Dr. Watson reuniting with the orderly who saved his life in Afghanistan, concluding with "The Disquieting Adventure of the Murmuring Dell," reuniting Holmes with Algernon Blackwood's enigmatic Dr. John Silence.

Wild both in plot and narration

This volume is on par with the earlier instalments of these anthologies. a mix of classic(although with somewhat curious denouements)and supernatural SH cases.

Mr. Featherstone's narration is excellent and suits the nature of the cases, although I find Watson's guttural and muffled voice irritating compared to his "narrator" voice

Great entertainment!

This book is a collection of some weird, wild and dark Sherlock Holmes stories. The narrator is very good. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

Still entertainingly wild

This was another fun collection of occasionally wild Holmesian stories. I found his version of The Paradol Chamber delightfully different from August Derleth’s version. Many of the stories would probably be fun in ebook form.

Unfortunately, we have them in audiobook form. And while I feel I am beating a dead horse, I must take issue with the narrator. As I’ve said of every Holmes story he has narrated, I hate with a deep and abiding passion the way he voices Watson. Add to that his quite frequent misread and mispronounced words, and it completely ruins my enjoyment.

Your mileage may vary.

Darker Adventures

Will Murray really knows how to write a Sherlock Holmes story, he manages to score highly on both my Sherlock Holmes bingo card and my weird bingo card. Loved them!
