About this listen

Cambridgeshire, September 1813: Detective Stephen Lavender and Constable Ned Woods are lured to an isolated estate in the deadly marshland surrounding Ely, to investigate a murder.

But nothing is as it seems at the mysterious Willow Marsh Manor. They soon realize they've come across this feuding family before - in the direst of circumstances. With no dead body and no sign of the woman who summoned them, Woods fears someone has planned a murderous revenge.

Meanwhile, Lavender dreads the disclosure of his greatest secret. A secret that, if revealed, will destroy both his career - and his relationship with Woods. Haunted by ghosts from the past, Lavender and Woods must tread a careful path through this watery and dangerous terrain in order to solve one of the most perplexing mysteries of their career.

Always Anticipate Next Lavender and Ned novel

I began reading this series but have come to love the narrated audio versions better, as I can listen as I walk or commute and be entertained. Michael Page puts so much personality into each of the characters that it is a real joy to just lose yourself in each book. Best to listen to something else if you are driving in traffic!
Karen Charlton is a gifted and creative author and I wish her a wealth of plot scenarios for her next books in this series.

WILLOW MARSH MURDER

Excellent! I have devoured every one of Mrs. Charlton's books and enjoyed every one. She outdid herself with the mysterious twists in this one. I sincerely hope she doesn't desert this series for her new one. This is my favorite historical period. Inspector Lavender and Constable Woods cannot be abandoned!

The. Best in the series

A good twisting plot that keeps you turning the page. The relationship between Lavender and Woods deepens and we are introduced to the rationale for the next book. I look forward to Lavender sorting out his wife Magdalena’s estate in Spain

I love this series

The characters are so well fleshed out, and I think the narrator does an excellent job of bringing them to life! i love their witty banter back and forth. This series is like a classic mystery from the Golden Age, but with somewhat updated characterizations and emotions (still typical of the time period),all wrapped up with great narration.

Mystery Maven

Well written, excellently performed, however, the story is harrowing, (personal feeling). I did skip portions due to that aspect but overall another hit.

excellent

These books get better as the series continues. Excellent job on narration, enjoyed listening to story more than reading it.
