About this listen

Hated. Distrusted. Needed.

Richter von Dagentear, a witch hunter known in legend as the Wight, traverses a realm falling headfirst into war. To survive, he will have to betray his profession’s purpose and undertake a task that goes against everything he believes in. All that stands in his way are backstabbing nobles, cruel sellswords, terrible beasts, and a mysterious traveler from another world.

Battle Brothers is set in a gritty, low fantasy medieval world with a focus on the common man. Here, everyday people are not concerned with the happenings of history, and their belief in the future is about as far flung as tomorrow’s sunrise. It is about getting you and yours fed and making it to the next day. With money being scarce and the wilds full of danger, many turn to mercenaries, witch hunters, beast slayers, and more. These lowly vocations fulfill a need: to take all the world’s violence and–hopefully–point it somewhere useful.

Perfect without prior game knowledge, so many references with it. Impeccable plot, prose, and pacing

One of the Best Fantasies in a while

As a huge fan of the game, this really expanded on my outlook of what life in the world of Battle Brothers would actually be like. It's a great story, even if you haven't played the game. But those that have will get the subtle references and be able to appreciate the author for including them. Great narration too, no two characters sound alike.

Graphic horrors in all the right ways

Cool story, brutal world, cool characters. I enjoyed the narrators voices and found the story hard to put down once I started listening.

Amazingly gritty

One can enjoy the dark grim nature of this book for what it is and be immersed in the adventures of richter the witch hunter. Knowing battle brothers lore adds a bonus in imagery but is certainly not a prerequisite. Both the narration and writing are fantastic and before finishing the books, I’ve pre purchased the next two books to keep the story going.

Great narration and story

Everything was awesome, finely acted characters, good voice acting; all set over a wonderfully written story that pulls you into a universe you’d only seen the surface of if you play the game.

Story set in a universe I’d already immersed myself within.

By Chapter 2 a man is being mind controlled to perform cunnilingus on the rotting loins of a witch, seemingly just as a sadistic act of debasement, while said witch absently chews on the remains of children and hammers a spike through the man's head and stirs his brains to soup to intimidate our protagonist I guess? I don't know I stopped listening. I'd return it if I could.

Pointlessly Graphic, Needs Content Warning
