About this listen

A captivating tale of humanity pushed beyond its breaking point, of family and bonds of love forged when everything is lost, and of a heroic young woman who crosses a frozen landscape to find her destiny, this debut novel is in a postapocalyptic tradition that spans The Hunger Games and Station Eleven but blazes its own distinctive path.

Forget the old days. Forget summer. Forget warmth. Forget anything that doesn't help you survive in the endless white wilderness beyond the edges of a fallen world.

Lynn McBride has learned much since society collapsed in the face of nuclear war and the relentless spread of disease. As the memories of her old life continue to haunt, she's been forced to forge ahead in the snow-drifted Canadian Yukon, learning how to hunt and trap and slaughter.

But her fragile existence is about to be shattered. Shadows of the world before have found her tiny community - most prominently in the enigmatic figure of Jax, who brings with him dark secrets of the past and sets in motion a chain of events that will call Lynn to a role she never imagined.

Simultaneously a heartbreakingly sympathetic portrait of a young woman searching for the answer of who she is meant to be and a frightening vision of a merciless new world in which desperation rules, The Wolves of Winter is enveloping, propulsive, and poignant.

I enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from the early pages. The story was good, maybe a little predictable in a few spots but definitely worth the read.

Good story

The whole premise of the book relies on the main character, Lynn, being too stupid to see even the most obvious of consequences to her poor choices. I'm frustrated because there is some good writing here. Unfortunately, the heroine is so clueless about the most obvious things, it's just unbelievable.

Decent writing, poor plot

Better than a lot of the post apocalyptic reads out there. Much better actually! This is not your "prepper" style read so if your looking for the run of the mill, I'm prepared for anything, prepped style read you should move on. I was pleasantly surprised although i think there could have been a bit more to it and it seemed to die off a little towards the end. Nonetheless it is still better than several books out recently in this genre. I have to assume there is more coming or possibly more already out (I haven't checked yet) continuing this story. Matter of fact I'm gonna go look right now for. Oil two, three, etc...

Good book! Wish there was more!

I did like the story but...but what? Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. I will try it again another time.

end of the world

The reader is very pleasant and the book itself is great! I don’t like to read but this kept me interested.

Great Story

This book was just ok. It was predictable but entertaining enough and the ending was left in a way for sequels. The main character I found slightly irritating and immature but given her circumstances maybe that was the point. Overall it was an easy listen on my commute but wouldn’t recommend.

Entertaining enough

Good writing. Sound story line not entirely predictable . Narration excellent. Would like other books by this author and narrator.

Enjoyed this book more than expected

I don't usually like to listen to books written in the first person, but this one was good. I liked the characters and the story. The narrator was good too. I would try another audio book from this author.

I enjoyed it

just ok, too much like Katniss and her bow for me. was hoping for it to be fleshed out more

lame

The book is wonderful. The writing is nearly flawless, but flawed enough for you to think it's actually the thoughts of a normal person. The author made a story that wraps you in and makes you feel like you are a part of this world.

Instantly one of my favorites
