Publisher's summary

From the #1 internationally bestselling author of the Cartel Trilogy (The Power of the Dog, The Cartel, and The Border), The Force, and Broken comes the first novel in an epic new trilogy.

“Superb. City on Fire is exhilarating.” – Stephen King

"Epic, ambitious, majestic, City on Fire is The Godfather for our generation.” – Adrian McKinty, New York Times bestselling author of The Chain

Two criminal empires together control all of New England.

Until a beautiful woman comes between the Irish and the Italians, launching a war that will see them kill each other, destroy an alliance, and set a city on fire.

Danny Ryan yearns for a more “legit” life and a place in the sun. But as the bloody conflict stacks body on body and brother turns against brother, Danny has to rise above himself. To save the friends he loves like family and the family he has sworn to protect, he becomes a leader, a ruthless strategist, and a master of a treacherous game in which the winners live and the losers die.

From the gritty streets of Providence to the glittering screens of Hollywood to the golden casinos of Las Vegas, two rival crime families ignite a war that will leave only one standing. The winner will forge a dynasty.

Exploring the classic themes of loyalty, betrayal, and honor, City on Fire is a contemporary masterpiece in the tradition of The Godfather, Casino, and Goodfellas—a thrilling saga from Don Winslow, “America’s greatest living crime writer” (Jon Land, Providence Journal).

Stunning Story

This is one of the best books I’ve read in the past few years. The narrator brings this to life completely even though the story is not a new one. This one, however, is told so utterly well that it has stuck with me for weeks after.

City on Fire

Another outstanding book by Don Winslow, who has become my favorite author, and who never disappoints. I can’t wait for the second and third installment of this new series. This audio version is also narrated by a great voice. If you like thrillers and stories about the mob, you will love this book.

Superb!

This ranks with the best of the many audiobooks I’ve listened to. Don is a very gifted author. He is taking time off from writing to help save America during the present crisis. I wish him success and Godspeed in returning to giving us more great writing.

Gritty, realistic / top notch slice of small town mob life.

Thoroughly enjoyable from behind g to end. Great dialogue and real life characters put you in the middle of small time monsters trying to make their way in the world. Fine nuanced narration adds to the realism of the story.

Great

Some reviewers seemed to think this was slow, or lacked action. I thought it was terrific. Certainly enough action for me. It has lots of interesting characters, swagger and enough East Coast attitude to take me back to my years in Boston. I was sorry when it ended.

Excellent Narrator

Well paced story, authentic with excellent character development and perfect insights into ethnic dynamics. But the narrator was outstanding in using his voice to capture the subtleties of the characters which added color to the experience. Made the story memorable.
