Publisher's summary

The Lady in the Van meets The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry in this uplifting, funny and moving debut novel about a 79-year-old hoarder who is convinced the world is against her.

79-year-old Gloria Frensham is a hoarder. She lives amongst piles of magazines, cardboard boxes and endless knickknacks that are stacked into every room of her home and teeter in piles along the landing and up the stairs.

She hasn’t left the house in years, but when a sudden smell of burning signifies real danger, she is forced to make a sudden departure and leave behind her beloved possessions.

Determined she’s not ready for a care home, Gloria sets out to discover what life still has to offer her. It’s time to navigate the outside world on her own, one step at a time, with just one very small suitcase in tow....

Heartwarming and poignant in equal measure, this is a story about the loneliness of life, the struggles of growing old, the power of kindness and the bravery it takes to leave our comfort zones.

Unique story

There aren't very many stories with an 80 year old heroine that have come to my attention. I was worried at the beginning that it was going to be a downer but it was far from it. A good and positive story.

A MUST READ!

This is all too true and not as shocking as one might think. Thank you Jane Gilley for writing such a lovely, sensitive, educational approach to the problems faced by single, aging women.

Delightful

This was such a delight to listen. The reader was magnificent. I love books in settings with accents and this one was tops! Not a depressing story, but actually uplifting. Perhaps not totally plausible, but engaging none the less.

OK story

While this isn’t a book I would listen to a second time, the story and performance are decent and I don’t consider it a waste of a credit.

The Woman Who Kept Everything

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and how they intertwined. This book showed how you could have lifetime, friendships, old experiences, and new experiences, no matter what your age. There were some ups and downs. But I loved how friends and family can help you through. I love all the travels and new memories made. I would recommend this book.
Enjoy
Darlene 😊
