Publisher's summary

"Hilarious! I loved every page...reminded me of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry." - Dawn at Crooks on Books

One evening in early August, while mashing potatoes for dinner, Connie McColl decides she’s had enough. Sixty-six-year-old wife and grandmother, Connie, is tired of solving one family crisis after another, while her husband Roger spends all day at his beloved golf course. Surely it must be time for her to shake off her apron and start living again? So Connie packs a bag, gets in her little green car and drives off.

On her journey from England to Scotland, Connie stops in on long-lost friends and makes all sorts of interesting new companions along the way. As Connie has the time of her life, sleeping under the stars and skinny dipping in the sea, she finally begins to rediscover herself. And she starts to wonder, will she ever be ready to return home? Or could this summer change her life forever?

Connie’s begins to discover that it’s never too late to have some fun and you’re never too old for an adventure.

The Runaway Wife is an inspiring and joyously uplifting novel. If you loved The Kicking the Bucket List and A Man Called Ove then this funny audiobook is for you.

Fun, easy listen

I very much enjoyed this easy listen. The tour of the English countryside with the main character was fun and a bit of a retreat for the reader as well. The character development seemed authentic to most of us older females and the ending gave me a good chuckle.

Wonderful. Loved the storyline and the characters

I guess this adventure / breaking away/ finding yourself again and taking chances will be the new read for 50 plus women. First we enjoyed Mills and Boons and Romance novels as teenagers, and now we have this. Such a treat!

Truly Delightful

This book has to be my all time favorite. Perfect narration for the Connie character and all those she encountered. I loved every chapter. Every long-time married woman at one time or another longs for Connie’s courage.
Are there other books by Dee McDonald narrated by Diane Croft? I hope so.

Real characters

The best books contain believable characters and an interesting story - they draw you in and keep you listening.

The ending was rather abrupt, but not painfully so. Maybe it's just that I just wanted the story to keep going for a few more days - I really liked some of these people.

One of my favorite narrators, too.

A woman protagonist my age

I was continually surprised. Thought provoking while easy to read. Enjoyed hearing all the UK accents from the narrator!

Excellent Narration for a Fun Story

This book ended up being one that I hated to see end. I was truly enjoying Connie's adventures and dragged out finishing the book Because I wasn't ready to let it go. The narrator did such a wonderful job with all the characters that I truly felt like I was A fly on the wall observing all of Connie's interactions.

It definitely wasn't expecting that ending but it certainly tied things up very well. If you like a fun story about a housewife that discovers her best life when she takes a break from her existing one then grab this book and give it a listen.
