About this listen

These Thousand Hills continues the western epic of A. B. Guthrie, Jr.'s, critically acclaimed Big Sky series. This vivid American saga conjures up the world of cattle ranchers in the 1880s, focusing on a Montana community's boisterous, wanderlusting eccentrics as they chase after love and unbridled ambitions. At its center is Lat Evens, a goodhearted cowboy who strikes out from Oregon to Montana on a cattle drive, determined to succeed as a rancher. Gradually, though, he discerns how the perils of the world, especially human nature, can conspire to frustrate a man's best intentions.

AB Guthrie is the best writer in western genre

Another fabulous book By AB. Dark, gritty. yet poignant, character driven plot, with enough true to life unusual circumstances to always result in a unique and believable story. Not clichéd. slow paced it It's time evolving but it's worth it worth it.

Good, but not as strong as the first two.

With the first two books, it was easy for me to build a relationship with the characters. The first two were very "in the field", while the third was about life at home and a little more static. Dick Sommers helped to bridge the gap between the first and second book. However, the third book was loosely connected to the second. I may need to listen to it again. I found this one less able to hold my attention. Overall, it's a great trilogy! :)

The Best!

Real people, young men coming of age; women with very hard lives; imperfect men and women you can admire

Not the direct chronologic sequel to The Way West.

Guthrie wrote the direct sequel to "The Way West" titled "Fair Land, Fair Land" in 1981 (so very much last in publication date but 3rd in the chronological order of the 6 related books in sequence). "Fair Land, Fair Land" follows the further story of Dick Summers - it begins just after Summer's last scene in "The Way West". Unfortunately "Fair Land, Fair Land" is not currently available on Audible (as of 2/2020). Print version is available on Amazon.

"These Thousand Hills" is an excellent book and is highly recommended. Takes place in 1880's with a descendent of the wagon train. Very much a novel that stands on it's own.
Just wanted to pass on the info since I was initially confused.
