About this listen

Tell the truth. Or face the consequences.

Clue meets Riverdale in this pause-resisting thriller that exposes the lies five teens tell about a deadly night one year ago.

One year ago, there was a party. At the party, someone died. Five teens each played a part, and up until now, no one has told the truth.

But tonight, the five survivors arrive at an isolated mansion in the hills, expecting to compete in a contest with a $50,000 grand prize. Of course...some things are too good to be true. They were each so desperate for the prize, they didn’t question the odd, rather exclusive invitation until it was too late.

Now, they realize they’ve been lured together by a person bent on revenge, a person who will stop at nothing to uncover what actually happened on that deadly night one year ago.

Five arrived, but not all can leave. Will the truth set them free? Or will their lies destroy them all?

Excellent

I had high expectations for this one and it delivers. Such a great, interesting, and very creepy story that will leave you guessing until the very end. It goes to show you that you don’t know everything about someone just by outward appearances. Each character is very unique and has very clever back stories. It is a full cast performance and each performance is better than the last. They do everything so great but it’s hard to pinpoint who is better and they all blend together so nicely. Definitely worth a credit check this one out because it will leave you guessing to the very end

I love it

I love the story. I love the twist at the end, and I like all the different narrators of the different characters.

bizarre, but not in a good way

this book was both cliche and bizarre. the performance was great, but the story was just weird and cheesy and very overdone.

Predictable.

I was really excited for this book with the "riverdale meets clue" tagline.. but it was disappointing. You can guess the villain and the major plot after the first few chapters. There are a few minor twists but nothing that had me floored and left me saying that reading the whole thing is worth it. I did, however, really enjoy the readers performance. They had a different voice actor for every character that made following along with the audio book much easier.

Very very very very very melodramatic...

It seems this book was initially written to be a soap opera, because there’s really no other explanation. The characters are neither believable nor relatable and seem to have been construed by someone who has only heard about teenagers but has never met one. The language used by the students is similar to the language used by my 97 year old great-grandma, and is SO over the top and cheesy it was sometimes painful. The premise of the book was fun and catchy, but it needed some EXTREME editing. Some of the scenes in this book that were meant to be dramatic it came across as so over-the-top that it was comical (for example when one character mistook marker on someone’s skin for slash marks). Not every paragraph needs a metaphor. And certainly not more than one. If you’re looking for a good work out for your eye roll this is the perfect book for you.

Not the best

Such a disappointment, the plot just fell flat and it was hard to connect with any of the characters. If you're looking for a good YA mystery thriller then try Karen M Mcmanus.

The writing is abysmal

The author exclusively wrote in metaphors, to such an extent that not a single statement was straight forward and listening to the story was like wading through drying cement. Not every single line of a story should be absurdly poetic and convoluted, it has to be readable, and this book lacked that entirely. Juice up the plot, but not every sentence should be weighted down with commas, similes, and symbolism to the point that you finish it without a clue what’s actually being said. Performance was good, plot had potential, execution of writing? Terrible to be put lightly.
