About this listen

Clarissa Moone’s a smart, quirky art history grad with an almost unhealthy obsession with vintage clothes. When she lands a job working for the enigmatic Aidan Thornhill, she doesn’t quite know what to expect—but certainly not romance.

Aidan is a self-made billionaire whose early life is shrouded in mystery. Fleeing a scandal, he joined the army and years later returned from Afghanistan with a head full of bad memories and a million dollars left to him by a dead friend. Now he’s one of LA’s wealthiest bachelors—and he’s also smoking hot.

But even this billionaire veteran didn’t count on the voluptuous Clarissa. With rumors already circulating, Aidan breaks his golden rule: One steamy night on his private yacht, he seduces Clarissa. When he discovers her lack of experience, instead of running, he takes control. Things are about to get filthier than Clarissa ever imagined.

Aidan’s dark past is never far behind. Determined to stir trouble, three figures—an old army comrade, a spurned ex-con, and a spoiled old flame with sharp claws—emerge to reap revenge.

Rising to defend his new lover, the former soldier charges headlong into battle, determined to have Clarissa even if it means losing everything, while she must choose whether to ignore the rumors and continue to bathe in Aidan’s charms…or leave her dream job.

Difficult to review

When I first started the first book, I almost put it down. I felt like the conversations were very fake and the language used to call items were not American. I immediately knew the author wasn’t American: it didn’t help that the female narrator is very stilted and robotic and her male voices were non existent. I continued to listen and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline throughout all 3 books: I still struggled with the female narrator as well as the conversation formality. During the second and third book, the female narrator seemed to relax and was a lot less stilted however her male voice was still non existent. The male narrator was good. No complaint and it seemed like the chapters he read flowed smoother. I still had issues with the conversation language and formality between the main characters. It seems like they should have been historical romance conversations put in the modern time. I didn’t notice it as much when the male narrator spoke.

So overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline… the relationships and characters. And I enjoyed the development of the plot. It was just obvious from the beginning that the author wasn’t American and struggled with the dialect and how Americans speak such as she would go to the “powder room”. I would have enjoyed having more definition between male and female voices to make it easier to follow and would have enjoyed the narrator more during the first book if she read it as she did the second two.
