About this listen

A deal struck in a dark place set an outlaw mage on the path to revenge. And now that it’s led to places even darker, she and everyone she knows may pay the price for her bargain in the final novel of “an unforgettable epic fantasy” trilogy (Publisher’s Weekly).

Sal the Cacophony has made few friends, but many enemies. Many, many enemies. When her magic was taken from her, she cried out for revenge. And a power she never understood promised her vengeance. A deal for a bloody price was made.

And now the bill has come due.

In one of the last free cities of the burned-out ruin of the Scar, Sal’s many foes—old and new—have hunted down her and her few allies—willing and otherwise—and all her plans to save them might not be enough.

One last stand. One more story. One final blade to be drawn.

Best of the three

This truly was the best of the three books! However, skyes continued the interview style exposition with waaaay too many forth wall breaks. The story was stunted at time with his need to have Sal crack a joke or remark.

Also thought the ending to be very anticlimactic. No big reveals or plot twists. Just kinda ends the book. Would only recommend the series to certain people but not many.

3rd Fantastic book in Sykes "Graveyard of Empires"

The team of Sykes and narrator Parsons pull off another triumph! The humor, pathos and mind boggling violence of this series are unparalleled. Daisy-Mae Parsons is the perfect voice for Sal the Cacophony and she lends her talent to all characters in this story. Mage Imperium vs fanatical Republicans - with the hapless people of the Scar in between. I also read two of Sykes novellas in the series as well. The audiobook rendition of the three novels is a masterpiece. More Sal the Cacophony and ensemble please. Thanks to both Author and Narrator!

great conclusion

As with the other two, it was a great back and forth build to a cacophonous crescendo and a satisfying end.

Excellent conclusion

Sam has done an awesome job landing the plane here. An amazing, emotional, hell of a story, and an awesome conclusion (?) to Sal’s story. Highly recommended.

Gonna let this one sit a while

I just finished this book and can’t say exactly how I feel about it. I like Sal but I hate her a lot too. The story was very long and someone felt meandering, and I’m not sure it needed to be, but I think maybe it really did.

Would I recommend it? Well I’ll definitely pick up a sequel if there is one.

A Fitting Conclusion

Loved it. Daisy May Parsons perfectly capures Sam Sykes's characters. Painful yet triumphant. Sal again manages to find troubles at every turn, but the weight of it finally catches up to her. Definitely worth reading the whole series!

Never write reviews but one of the best narrators

Absolutely terrific narration for this series. Merited a shout out even if I hate writing things like this.

I don't care... I need more!!

Super entertaining and super engaging. I still don't get the cover art, though. This is so deep into the lore that it needs to be more.

Satisfying!

As with the first two books, this story is funny and gritty, and the world building is just so interesting! I still want more from this world!
