About this listen

On a cold winter night in 1928, three deputies are sent to arrest a man they know little about. They don’t know he’s on the run from a string of dark acts that stretch for 15,000 miles or why he’s shown up in the middle of Idaho. They don’t know that a far-off court has charged him with lunacy. They just know they need to arrest him. This gripping chronicle—filled with more than a dozen murders—twists and turns like a dust devil on a hot July day.

Very interesting

The details of this case needed meticulous research and the author did the work. Easy to follow the story and his descriptions made it easy to picture the situations unfolding. I hope this author continues writing about true crimes from the past. They deserve to be remembered and done so with the respect this author gives to the victims.

Historical research brings this story to life.

Enjoyed Tony’s descriptions of the Lemhi Valley and its residents approximately 100 years ago and approximately 50 years before I moved there. Not much has changed though times were tougher then. Also enjoyed his descriptions of life in Tennessee hills and the moonshine business. I found the seemingly frequent use of mental institutions interesting. Characters are well developed and empathy easily generated for the timespan. The author has done his homework! Held my interest.

Very interesting weaving of past and present events and how those events coalesced a piece of Idaho history.

Fascinating true tale about turn of the century life in a remote Idaho town. Exceptionally researched, dramatically narrated, a fictional story could not have been more exciting. Wonderful insights into the toughness and resilience of early Salmon city inhabitants, as well as their potential for brutality and violence.
