Me and Mr. Jones!

Mac Jones had had enough of war and killing. He wished to retire from that life, settle down and build the home he always wanted. He decided on Larimer County, Colorado; to homestead land between the North and South fork of the Cache la Poudre River, twelve miles northwest of Laporte, twenty-seven miles from Fort Collins. Here he would build his home, hunt, fish, and start a new life. In Fort Collins, enduring a life of despair and self-loathing, we find Molly Bradford with her ten-year-old son Tom. Through bad luck and poor choices Molly suffers in a marriage to Bob Philips aka Ed Richardson, a self-serving outlaw on the run from the law and his former gang. Bad turns to worse and Molly must escape this nightmare. Two strangers, in the right place at the right time, can change everything. Mac’s Cabin turned out to be a great story. A powerful, endearing story of love and second chances. I enjoyed the tale and heartily recommend it to any western/romance fan. Second C.J. Petit & Michael White read

My first exposure to the dynamic duo mentioned in the headline was The Second Star, a Christmas novel. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to my next experience with Petit / White. Took me a bit since I read a minimum of two business books, then reward myself with some good fiction, but just finished Mac's Cabin.

Listened with my wife since we were on a road trip and she enjoyed it as much as I did. Mac's Cabin is what one would expect from the genre' but Petit does a great job of balancing the outlaws and good guys with a great romance.

White's ability to change tone, inflection and nuance adds so much that if feels as though I'm reading the book myself.

Have already purchased The Eclipse and will hurriedly complete my next business tomes in order to escape with another fine work from Mr. Petit and Mr. White.

Happy reading!

Great story

When men were men and single women and Mothers were forced to raise their children and live by their wits in a wild country. A story about a man with a troubled soul and a desperate scared mother who are seeking a home. Non stop action. Another great story by CJ Petit Narrated by a pleasant masculine voice.

Interesting

I have read a number of C. J. Petit’s books and have found them difficult to put down. He has a way of writing that makes one want to know what is going to happen next. There is a pattern to his writing but each book is unique. The books tend to be about family and the characters are interesting with a personality. If you are looking for a get-away-from-it books, try a C. J. Petit story.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. Michael Alan White does a good job narrating the book.

Excellent story and narration

A western story that keeps your interest for the duration of the book. Bad guys, good guys, romance, all's well that ends well. We loved it.

The narration was excellent. I would listen to other books by Michael Alan White.

One of the best romantic westerns I’ve ever read

After being a ranchhand and working his way from the Civil War to the west and home again Matt Jones comes to Fort Collins to stake his claim and build him a cabin. It’s going to be a place to pay penance for the wrong he thinks he’s done in his life. All is going well until over in a little town three hours away and Richardson look inside the saloon to see his worst enemy and best of all it’s worst enemy also sees him. Making a hasty retreat, Ed Richardson a.k.a. Bob Phillips tells his“Wife“, Molly he hast to leave town right away to go for a job in Fort Collins. A month later when she still hasn’t heard from them she takes her son Tom it goes to find him. After all Bob Phillips is her husband, but as soon as she steps foot in Fort Collins Ed a.k.a. Bob sees her and tells her she needs to leave town immediately, they are not married his name isn’t Bob Phillips and if she thinks he is joking he tells her he is a wanted man into take her brat and leave. These are the three main characters in this is a set up for the beginning of the book Marley will meet Mac at the store while he is buying hooks for his fishing pole and having no other choice because of his kind nature will eventually follow him to his home in the next town Laporte and walk 15 miles to throw her self and Tom on his mercy. Then add a K a Bob who already wanted to rob my find out his wife is up there… Not that he cares about her… And their lies will enter twine and it is just such a good book. Having said all that they still have so much more to this book not to mention dark storm or black pepper or whatever the Native Americans name is. This book is awesome I highly recommend it be a great characters, great world building awesome descriptions of his cabin built overA creek in May and from the discussion I wish I could live there today. I find Mr. petit is a great storyteller and Mr. Michael Ellen White is an awesome narrator it together makes for the perfect book.

Bad guys, good guys, romance ,damsel in destress and intrigue. The narration was spot on also. I would gladly listen to other books narrated by Michael Alan White.

Down Home by Alabama

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Normally I don’t leave song titles as the quick catch for review but it just fits. It reminds me of the good ol country shows and movies and camping when I was kid.
Molly has had a sad start to life and on a whim of kindness shown to her son follows Mac out to his cabin.
Mac has been building his homestead for two months now and being the gentleman he his offered to molly and her son to stay and he would stay out in the tent for the time being.
Through heart to heart talks informing the other of their situations in life Mac and molly quickly find that they want to be married.
There are quite a few adventures and run-ins that keep this country story interesting.
I recommend this book to country lovers, and wilderness lovers and even camping lovers. This book is beautiful.
