About this listen

The town of Landen cut a devil's bargain, the fracking company just unleashed an ancient evil, and Jason Derval hasn't gone to class in three weeks. Not all of these problems are equal, but he's dodging the fallout from all three. When bad decisions come crashing down, only a motley crew of slackers stands between Landen and oblivion.

Threshold is a genre-bending adventure that blurs humor, horror, and science-fiction in a loving tribute to classic teen thrillers. Starring a diverse group of slackers, nerds, and outcasts, "Threshold" begins as a slice of life into a dying small town. Set against a rising tide of darkness, the story transitions into a rousing adventure as our heroes uncover the awful truths surrounding them. First ignorant of the threat, then avoiding it, the heroes will find themselves hurled against conspiracies, cults, and forgotten evil. They will be forced to use their wits, luck, and obscure hobbies to fend off threats far beyond their worst nightmares.

Will our heroes rise to the challenge? Will they overcome the rising darkness? Will they stop bickering long enough to order dinner?

Apocalyptic Snark

Threshold follows a group of college slackers who skip class to solve all the world's problems while munching chicken wings. They find themselves thrust into a living nightmare when a fracking company drills somewhere they really shouldn't.

This book super nerdy. Fans of D&D, LARP, and online shooters will have a smorgasbord of references at which to chuckle. The threat is quite serious, but the main protagonists meet all problems in life with healthy doses of sarcasm and wit.

Shane will be your favorite character. The man enjoys blowing up cantaloupes for fun. He's simple and loyal. He contrasts well against the main man-children who are not as clever as they think they are. The other four leads are an internet troll in the flesh, a devoutly religious prodigee who recently came out of the closet, college activist searching for something to fight for, and Jason, our point of view character, who is waging a one man war against his alarm clock and personal responsibility. These are the ones standing between a small, no horse town and perdition's flames.

I purchased both the text and the audio version, and the reader really understands the characters. Snark oozes off of every line he delivers from Jason's point of view.
