About this listen

Remember that time you dated that complete nutcase and said to yourself, "I wish Future Me would have come back and warned me about this"? Remember when you and your drunk friends said, "If it's such a bad idea, someone would come back from the future and stop us", right before it blew up in your face and got you in trouble? It would be great to have someone from the future to guide your life, wouldn't it?

Landon Bridges' life hasn't always been perfect, but now he's in college and determined to make a fresh start and transform himself from high school geek to college chic...well, less geeky guy. He's finally attained his life-long goal of studying physics in college under a renowned professor. He's met the girl of his dreams and made friends with some of the cool frat guys. Things are going great, until he shows up.

A mysterious stranger intervenes to help Landon out of a terrible, possibly life changing situation, but what does he want? Why does he keep showing up? Who is he? Landon's esteemed professor suddenly seems like a flake. Landon's briefly idyllic college world seems to be spinning out of control. Landon needs to control his world and, in the process of regaining his sanity and his grip on reality, he discovers that he has talents and allies that he never imagined. But is what they're telling him the truth?

The truth is just the lie we've chosen to believe, and yours may be different than mine.

A fun time travel listen with pop culture laughs

I had no idea what to expect prior to listening to Time to Lie, Book 1 of the Landon Bridges series, but I'm really glad that I was able to listen and review this title. It's a fun, different twist on your typical time travel story with tons of pop culture references and lol moments.

Jeffrey Kafer did a great job with the narration and Phil Taylor wrote a fun, solid story about Landon Bridges and how he began his time travelling journey, well, back in college. I won't go into specifics because I don't want to ruin anything, but this story pretty much takes place all while Landon is in college. It's a fast moving listen and honestly didn't even seem like it was 5.5 hours long because I was having so much fun listening. I see that Book 2 isn't out on Audible yet, but I'll be sure to make it a point to listen once it becomes available because I'm honestly wanting to learn what happens next with these characters and hopefully learn exactly how they end up...well, where they end up. I will make sense after you listen!

I want More

I am so glad I got the chance to listen to this one. A cheeky mix of a coming of age story for a young man, a guide to time travel and college parties. A very cool listen. If you are like me and loved Karate Kid then this story will make you laugh and definitely keep your attention for a few hours. The characters are very likable and you learn to like them more and more as the story goes on. There are so many pop culture and science fiction references/ shout outs sprinkled throughout this book that it gives it a kind of authenticity. With all the different timelines intermingled it lends a sort of confusion that is not confusing at all but gives this time travel tale a little something different. The main character’s sarcasm is so cheeky and fun that you cannot help but laugh at him, in a geeky way. If you are anything like me then you will love listening to the main character geek out in the college dorms and navigate his way through his freshman year. The narrator does a phenomenal job with this entire story, but especially the sarcasm. Each character has their own unique sound it gives them personality. There were scenes that you could really hear the urgency and tension in the narrator’s voice. What a great listen and I cannot wait for this series to be continued. I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for a honest review via Audiobook Boom. This is no way affected my opinion of this work.

Wow, this book is a wild ride...........

Time to Lie is the first in what promises to be an interesting new adult, fantasy series. Langdon Bridges is a physics wiz entering his first year of college. Although I am a middle-aged woman, I found his internal musings hilarious. He has an incredibly dry wit and a very mature insight into himself and his failings for someone his age, but then he does things that are completely goofy and immature. The book starts out slowly as the author gives background for Langdon and sets the stage for life as a college nerd. However, once the action hits, you need to be paying attention to every sentence, or you will quickly become lost. The story has all kinds of twists and turns, and the author keeps doling out clues one bite at a time. All of this leads to an intriguing and exciting story that is poignant and sad at times and had me in stitches at others. The book ends with a total cliffhanger, and I am anxiously awaiting the release of book two on Audible soon.

In all honesty, Jeffrey Kafer could read anything and make it entertaining. However, combine his talent as a narrator with the excellent prose of Phil Taylor, and you have an amazing audiobook. His delivery and pacing are perfect, and his slightly raspy voice suited Langdon's sarcastic, self-deprecating personality to a tee. I have my fingers crossed that Kafer will be narrating all the books in this series as a I cannot imagine a better choice.

Because I always do, every time.

Landon Bridges was a nerdy kid, who loved Dr.Who and was able to write and recite equations like poetry but not so good with the chat up lines. But, even though his fireman dad died when he was a kid, he made it to college and even found a girlfriend, and was accepted as research assistant to the renowned physicist he most admired. And it was then that things started to get strange.

Written in the first person, this is a fun time travelling, anomaly filled hoot of a book as Landon struggles with his inner self as well as his other self as he tries to make sense of what's happening, or will happen and tries to out wit himself: if only be knew what they won't tell him and who he can trust. Not himself, obviously! Jeffery Kafer plays the sarcastic wannabe sardonic and witty young student just trying to get good grades, and get laid, as he discovers that having a future you to help and advise on life's future complexities is not always what you want to happen. Mr.Kafer's performance throughout is engaging, well read and the different protagonists are individually voiced: most enjoyable.

This was a light hearted, mind bending and humorous novel in which the reader travels with Landon in his quest to find out what's happening. And it continues in second volume, no resolution here. So readers beware, this is not a stand alone. Having said that, however, I am personally looking forward to the next book and hope it is out soon. My thanks to the rights holder of Time to Lie, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. Good read, good fun and recommended.

Interesting main character

I am a huge fan of time travel novels. This one was pretty good with one caveat: it might be more appealing to young adult males. The main character is a typical nerdy teenager. Although he was an interesting and well developed character, I could not relate to him the same way I can relate to young adult females in this genre.

I liked the character’s sense of humor. I imagine fans of the movie Karate Kid would appreciate this book. I’ve never seen the movie, so all the references went over my head.

I thought the plot was a bit weak in places and it took too long for anything significant to happen. I also thought the author could have used a different way to introduce the main character.

Overall, the premise was an interesting twist on time travel.

It took about an hour warm up to the Audiobook reader. But then I got used to his voice and it felt like he was Landon. He did a good job with Landon’s sarcasm and funny comments directed to the reader.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Time Travel

The story starts with Landon Bridges freshly out of high school and entered into college and determined to be a little less geeky and cooler then he was in high school. Being a physics nut he wants to study under a renowned eccentric physics professor who has been theorizing about the possibility of time travel, and arranges to have an interview with the professor. The interview goes much better than he had hoped for and soon Landon is caught up in college life shenanigans, a girl friend and yes, time travel. The author does a good job of developing the characters and using pop culture references and a puts new twist on time travel. He keeps you interested and excited to the surprising ending and waiting for the sequel. Jeffrey Kaffer does an excellent job of narration.
