About this listen

The popular preacher and public intellectual Lillian Daniel continues to take on the "Spiritual but Not Religious" individuals and shows Christians how to reach them.

Sloppy talk about Christianity has become an acceptable prejudice. Tired of Apologizing for a Church I Don't Belong To provides humorous yet knowledgeable commentary on the way religion is talked about today. Daniel explains Christian ideas and practices in non-academic, yet non-facile terms. In her signature style, she outlines four types of non-church-goers: no-longer, no-way, never-have, not-yet. With experiential insight from over a decade as a pastor, she explains how churches of all denominations and doctrines can provide them enlightened rigor, reasons for belief, and authentic religious community. No one should have to check their brain at the door of the church, she says, and churches must deal with present-day issues and be intellectually open, inviting people to bring questions, rather than dispensing old, easy answers.

Completed it in less than 24 hours!

enjoyed listening to the book. Lillian's voice was sweet and the pace was right even for an Asian like myself. The content was invigorating and inspiring; at times paradoxical yet sensible, or should I say, mystical. Though most if not all of her context and critic is from and about the North American ecclesiastical tradition, it appeals to me as an Asian living in a developed cosmopolitan Southeast Asian country. Ecclesiological sound yet unrelentingly liberal, I can't help but felt charged and challenged. Thank you for your honest yet humble "insults" (pardon my poor choice of word) and at the same time, "invite" to the Body of Christ, which is at once broken yet redeemed by Christ.

Very helpful and relatable

This book has helped me so much. It discussed into depth a struggle with Faith that I've been having. It really shed some positive light on religion. But she pointed out the ugly sides too.
