About this listen

The twelve-year rampage of "Missoula Mauler" Wayne Nance - and the shocking end to his murder spree

To his neighbors, Wayne Nance, a furniture mover from Missoula, Montana, appeared to be an affable, considerate, and trustworthy guy. No one knew that Nance was the "Missoula Mauler," a psychopath responsible for a series of sadistic sex slayings that rocked the idyllic town between 1974 and 1986.

Nance's only requirement for murder was accessibility - a preacher's wife, a teenage runaway, a female acquaintance, a married couple. Putting on a friendly façade, he could easily gain his victims' trust. Then, one September night, thirty-year-old Nance pushed his luck, preying on a couple who lived to tell the tale.

A true story with an incredible twist, written by former Wall Street Journal editor John Coston and complete with photos, To Kill and Kill Again reveals the disturbing compulsions of a charming serial killer who fooled everyone he knew, stumped the authorities, terrified a community, and nearly got away with it.

Great true crime listen

Fascinating, disturbing, And in the end, thrilling. Deeply researched, beautifully written book, flawlessly narrated.

Hard to “put down”!

Good balance between the human aspects of the story and the technical points. I didn’t take many listening breaks…I admit that I was on the edge of my seat. Why? Because both the perpetrator and the victims seemed like people whom I might’ve known, growing up in Michigan.

How have I never heard of this guy?

I’m no crime junkie aficionado like some of y’all... but I would have thought this guy would be more of a big name out there. I couldn’t find any TV shows, documentaries or even podcasts about this guy.

This is such a crazy story I had to look up if this was fake or not. I can’t believe this really happened and this human monster was really real.

Take a listen. It’s a must.

A few sound glitches throughout

Great story. Great narration. There were a few instances of the audio recording repeating itself.

Riveting!

Very well researched and written…kept me interested from beginning to end.
Not much out there about Wayne Nance, but with this comprehensive book there really doesn’t need to be.
Narrator top notch.

The Reader

Good story. The reader might put you to sleep. If you speed it up to 1.25x speed, it's way more tolerable

To Kill and Kill Again

This was a riveting account of a serial killer who preyed on his too trusting community in rural Montana of the late 70s to mid 80s. Wayne Nance was a brutal, heartless psychopath who operated freely among the people who dared to wander into his web of deceit. What frustrated me most was the many opportunities he gave authorities to catch him- but they flubbed it time and time again.

Phenomenal Book from Beginning to End

This is one of my favorite true crime novels thus far. Between the way Coston unravels a story and Chandler narrates it’s gripping. Never in my life have I listened to Audible instead of scrolling social media before bed and I found myself tuning in multiple nights until I was able to finish the book. The end plays out just like an action movie. Highly recommend.

Very Interesting Story

I actually got this audiobook as I am intrigued about serial killers. This timeline of events I found extremely interesting how Horrible and how sick this man was. I Imagine during this time it was very shocking to see Horrendous way he killed his victims. Serial killers are so common now but back then it just simply wasn’t heard of that much. If you like true story crime this is a good book easy listening and the narrator did a good job.

Good book

Great book, really enjoyed it but the narrator is a bit hard to get used to sounds like a true crime TV show but once you get used to it it's a great book.
