About this listen

Adam Faramond, Earl of Rothbury, needs to find a wife -immediately! - or his beloved grandmother swears she'll leave him penniless. But Adam, an unrepentant rake, would only renounce a life of scandalous pleasure for one woman, the woman he's lusted after - and loved - for years. It's rather unfortunate, then, that Miss Charlotte Greene, a shy but beautiful blonde of impeccable manners and breeding, would never consent to be the blushing bride of a rogue...or so he thinks.

But Charlotte believes that the earl, the only man whose touch leaves her trembling with desire, would never want a woman like her. Weary of her wallflower ways, Charlotte decides a friendship with the earl just might give her the excitement she desires. Keeping their true feelings hidden, she and Adam plan a sham ceremony to placate the dowager. But when the "marriage" of convenience takes an unexpected turn, will Charlotte and her wicked earl finally reveal their irresistible, unforgettable love - and delight in a lifetime of passion?

Delightful lighthearted romance

I really enjoyed this lovely romance, it’s not a masterpiece of literature or anything deep, there is no angst pain or misery, just fun romance with likeable characters and good storyline.
After finishing House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart and enduring all forms of misery and emotional torture, this book was like a breath of fresh air, pure joy.
I used the credit to purchase this book and did not regret it, would definitely recommend it!

Ahhhh....... love can conquer all

Firstly, this is actually a follow-up book to Bride Hunt Ball which Audible has not yet got, but that said - it's a good stand alone book. Typical handsome rake story except he's in love with a wallflower with glasses not the usual belle of the ball type but she is interested in his friend. A very enjoyable listen, yes there were a few minor plot 'flaws' but they don't really distract you from the story which is really sweet.

Worth a credit? Mmmmm. it's one of those "I enjoyed it but...." books - its 8.5 hrs long and there are loads of books out there that are much longer and even more enjoyable so, in answer to the question, yes I'm happy I spent the credit and don't regret it at all but if you're short on credits then you could Wish List it and wait until it's on sale.

Better Than Expected

Where does To Wed a Wicked Earl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to over 100 books and this is one of my top 10 which says alot.

What other book might you compare To Wed a Wicked Earl to and why?

It was fun, loving without too much sex and the story was easy to follow like Jennifer Cruise book Bet Me.

What does Christine Rendel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was good. She wasn't boring and her voice fluctuated at the right moments. While I do use books to go to sleep it's the good narrators that allow that and plus when it's a good narrator I go back to the last thing I remembered while if the narrators voice was irritating and boring I immediately skip to the last chapter and hope that I can return the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wouldn't say it moved me but one of my favorite parts was their reaction to their first kiss.

Any additional comments?

I really like this historical romance book. The story was good even if predictable, it was sexy but not sleazy and the story line was seamless. The characters are well done by the narrator and makes you wish for a sequel. Even if there are no sequels this book was good enough to make me look at reading or listening to the author more often.

Good premise but needs tighter writing/logic check

I always like stories about spinsters and wallflowers - I just can't relate to the drop dead beautiful heros and heroines. What bothered me most was that Charlotte climbs in Rothbury's bedroom window and claims that she thought it was his study. Give me a break - the study should be on the ground floor and the living quarters on the upper floor! There are also some strange descriptions, e.g., twirling eyes (what does that mean?) and "he rounded her" - did the writer mean he rounded ON her? I just think that this story could have used tighter editing and more direct storytelling and less extraneous vocabulary. I like stories best that show me the story vice telling me the story. I think this writer has a lot of potential, and that's why I gave this a four star rating.

Wicked fun!

Such a fun story.... a perfect romance with all the prerequisite details.... I'm a little in love with Rothbury myself!

Narrator; This is my only experience with a Christine Rendel performance. She did a very good job. Each character was distinct, their personalities colorfully portrayed and emotions on point. My one criticism is that I often was pulled from the story by the sound of a old woman telling the tale.... that's the best way to describe those moments that I can think of.

Heat factor: This was a delectable tale full of chemistry and appropriate steamy scenes near the end.

Creditworthy? I have to say yes, after all this was the third time I've listened to it!

Hard to finish

I'm not certain if I dislike the author or if I dislike the narrator. I know I did not like this narrator. I was specifically not listen to other books she narrates. But I also think the story was odd.

Hard to finish

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Honestly, I don't know if it was the story or the narrarator, but I didn't even want to finish reading this. It was confusing on how the author went from even to event and I just could not get into it.

Has To Wed a Wicked Earl turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of Christine Rendel’s performances?

Prob not.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from To Wed a Wicked Earl?

It seems like too many were cut - it hopped around and I had a hard time keeping up.

Any additional comments?

I wasted a credit, dammit.
