Publisher's summary

To this day Marie Antoinette remains one of history’s most misunderstood heroines. How she triumphed over the petty jealousies and backstairs rivalries of the court, how she sustained a good-hearted but malleable king, and how she was transformed from French queen to Austrian “whore,” is the story told with skill and fascinating detail.

Davina Porter is a treasure!

This book was a great read. I really have no criticisms. The story was wonderful, and the narration was superb. Davina Porter is one of my favorite narrators. Her voice is so smooth, sweet, and eloquent. I have now listened to a couple of books she narrated and will now be looking to see if I am interested in any others she has done.

Great story, great narration, great book.

Exceptional in detail

Wonderful narration. Of all the historical biographies I have listened to this was a favorite. The process of the revolution, what led to it, and the unintended economic consequences it had on the revolutionaries were informative. A lesson in both governments, highly recommended. The narrator is a favorite of mine.

To the Scaffoid

Where does To the Scaffold rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I learned a lot more then I ever had known about this Queen. I had always thought she was a real bust as a queen but now I gained a little respect for her. Thank you

To the Scaffold

Was a good listen with lots of facts written like a novel. But, I could not give it five stars, as I really felt the author copped out at the end. She ran through her death like it was hard for her to speak of. She gave more facts and showed more interest on the death of the king then the queen. Go figure.

The silences!

While the story is well done, the editing of the audio is dreadful. At the end of each chapter there is an extended pause of up to a minute before the next starts. This leaves the listener checking the app to ensure it is still playing every half hour or so and destroys the flow.

Excellent!!! Best nonfiction, reads like a historical fiction

I normally hate biographies. They're usually dry and not exciting. But this book couldn't be further from that. The author is telling Marie Antoinettes story in an exciting, you can really feel it, sort of way. And Davina Porter is fantastic. Her voice is so soothing but at the same time it doesn't put you to sleep. LOVED IT!!!

wonderfully written and read!

Loved this story, especially Ms Porters narration. I've always believed Marie Antoinette was a very misunderstood historical figure.

shock and awe

I really enjoyed this, I am not the biggest fan of French Revolution history because it think we overlook or are numb to the things that display the anarchy, brutality, and humanity. This was beautifully presented but the audio leaves something to be desired. There was some feedback and messed up audio.
