About this listen

Darya has discovered the perfect gift for her daughter's 25th birthday: an ideal husband. Mina, however, is fed up with her mother's endless matchmaking and grading of available Iranian American bachelors.

After Darya's last ill-fated attempt to find Mina a husband, mother and daughter embark on a journey to Iran, where the two women gradually begin to understand each other. But after Mina falls for a young man who never appeared on her mother's spreadsheets and Darya is tempted by an American musician, will this mother and daughter's tender appreciation for each other survive?

After listening to Stationary Shop, I was yearning for another one of Ms. Kamali novels and came upon Together Tea. I enjoyed both of these novels very much. It gave a interesting insight into Iranian customs and history. I hope she continues to write about her culture.

Very Enjoyable

As a child of two countries myself, I really loved all the cultural insights. I immediately was drawn to the wonderful characters, it was delightful to spend time with them.

Wonderful, fun, insightful

Excellent story especially in light of what is going on in Iran today. It is a wonderful glimpse into another culture and the way the oppressed circumnavigate the oppressors. I would love to go to Iran and experience their culture…someday.

Excellent Trip to Iran!

I didn’t like the Persian accent at all as it sounded more Indian than Persian.

Wonderful story

Any additional comments?

I always wondered, as I watch the TV news, what life is like for people in war torn countries. This story explained life in Iran, coming to America and finding the changing family dynamic. Each character’s personality shown in the story and I found I wished these characters were my real life American neighbors. The two love story lines, both different, were fresh and new in the field of romance novels. This is a wonderful story.

Yes, a Together Tea please

I love the storyline and could relate to so much of it, as an Iranian immigrant, who grew up the midst of the revolution and war in Iran. I was disappointed with the accents that were more Indian than Iranian! Some of the pronunciations were not accurate either.

Persian memories

Love this book.
It is about Darya and Mina (Mother-daughter relationship).
Learned about the Iranian culture. Felt that I was there living what Mina was experiencing.
Liked very much the Mom’s character.

One of my favorite authors...

I listened to this book during my afternoon walks. It was easy to follow, and the reader did a great job doing different voices and accents. I laughed out loud several times throughout. Though the novel did start off strong, I feel that the conflicts got somewhat resolved in a quick, flat way. I wanted more juicy drama between Daria and Sam. The trip to Iran was fun but also, I don't know, I was wishing for more. I read The Stationary Shop first and was so excited for this novel. TSS, in my opinion, was a beautiful story, that broke my heart and has this one beat. It was a good light-hearted story, overall.

Sweet story, but The Stationary Shop has my heart.

This was a sweet story of a family who flees Iran during the revolution and makes a home in the United States. There was some interesting history of Iran and what families experienced as they started a new life once they left Iran. However, this book did not hold my attention like her other books. I loved both The Stationary Shop and The Lion Women of Iran. This book was just ok in my opinion.

Nice story but not overly engaging

Listened to this after really liking her 2nd book The Stationary Shop. This is a good story and good listen.
