About this listen

There's trouble in paradise when a hired muscle fights to outwit a major kidnapping ring—and win the heart of the woman he wants—in this military romance adventure.

True heroes will do anything to protect the women they love....

As the newest recruit at Search and Protect, Raul has a lot to prove. Luckily, he's got the best friend and partner a man could ask for: a highly trained, fiercely loyal German Shepherd named Taz. Together, Raul and Taz make an unbeatable team. But their first mission in Hawaii really puts them to the test when an international kidnapping ring sets its sights on the bravest woman Raul's ever met....

Mali knows her latest job has put one hell of a target on her back. And on this small island paradise, there's nowhere to hide. With a service dog like Taz, Mali feels safe. Sharing close quarters with a smoldering muscle-for-hire like Raul, she feels something else—an unexpected wave of desire. Raul feels it too. But when the kidnappers make their move, he's got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action—and save the life of the woman he loves.

Total Plot Holes

I’ve liked previous books in this series, but this one just didn’t do it for me. First if all, the 2 narrators pronounced Mali’s name differently from each other. The woman made the name sound like Molly & the man said Ma-LEE. I kept wondering who Molly was because that is not a Thai name, lol.

Then there was the whole rescuing of the University workers. On whose authority did the search & rescue team go into the compound? It was basically a military operation. I didn’t notice where they co-ordinated with the police, FBI or even the University to set up the rescue. They seemed to do it all on their own. Very strange. And then nothing was mentioned about what happened to the bad guys after they were caught... Idk, someone needed to edit the plot so it hung together better.

On top of that, I never really cared about any of the characters. None of them were very sympathetic. I will be requesting my credit back on this book.!

Confused

I liked the characters, but the ending left many things hanging about Terry and how she met the "bad guys" etc.....and where she went since the main characters made a point of not seeing her as they left. it just felt unfinished. Neither one of the main characters told the other about their new jobs or how it might allow them to "date".... nor did they ask each other....

a new direction

I have all the others in this series and really enjoy listening to them. This just didn't seem to flow like the others ones. It didnt have enough about Taz to really make it a K9 story in my opinion. This was more of a romantic suspense with a new cast of characters. I'll probably order the next one but if it's like this one it may be my last. It is okay but I like the previous ones in the series way better.

Pineapple Jungle

Even though i had listened to others in the series or by this author i was hesitant to buy because of reviews. Once I decided to buy I was happy until the narrator's began mispronouncing every Hawaiian word. I'm disappointed that the Piper J. Drake didn't tell Daniel Thomas May and especially Caroline Slaughter to research or study up on the pronunciation of words like Malasadas & Plumeria. I guess I'm a bit more "sensitive " to my Native language. But honestly most people who visit the islands learn the word Plumeria. I cringed everytime they mispronounced something but the female narrator was worse at the language.

The story was interesting enough but there were a few plot holes here & there. it was still an enjoyable listen. I've already downloaded the next book because it's about Mali's sister Ari.

I enjoyed Taz the GSD most. He seemed like the sweetest most protective of them all. If dogs could talk I'd sure like to hear what Taz had to say. Woof! Woof!

Enjoy if you dare. I purchased on sale so I got my money's worth of distraction today.

What Happened??

What happened? The first four books in this series were very good. Total Bravery and Fierce Justice, not so much. The stories and style are so different, I wondered if they were truly written by Ms. Drake. The narration also has changed. Again, it says Daniel Thomas May but sounds nothing like the first four narrations. I've tried twice to listen to this but can't get through it. I was going to return, just never got around to it. I did return Fierce Justice. No more of this series for me.
