Publisher's summary

Should we always forgive? Is forgiveness always even possible? Does forgiveness enable evil? Does it sacrifice justice? Are there ANY limits? In a world where the ugliness of rage and retaliation are driving the story line, Unconditional? offers the beauty, reconciliation, and total restoration of forgiveness the way Jesus taught us to live it. More than just another biblical exposition, this audio book begins with the horror of the Holocaust as it explores what forgiveness means—and how far it should go—in the real world of murder, rape, child abuse, genocide, and other atrocities. With unusual honesty, compassion, and depth, Zahnd incorporates some of the most compelling and difficult thoughts on the subject from history’s writers, philosophers, and theologians—always returning to the example Jesus gave us with his life and his death.

Hope

He made the Bible relevant for today's world. It changes my mind set to have hope. With hope I am no longer crazy trying to figure things out in my mind.

The essence of Scripture

This seems an excellent articulation of the essential core of Jesus' aims and purpose and where all New Testament study should begin.

Every Christian should read this book.

This book provides an eye-opening understanding on how every Christian should view the world. Forgiveness is possible and this book provides a plethora of examples of forgiveness offered in the most radical of circumstances. I hope to use this material for teaching in the future.

The Prince of Peace celebrated radical Forgiveness

Another classic by Brian Zahnd gets to heart of what the Gospel is all about. The whole Bible should be read through the Jesus lens best found in the Beatitudes of Matthew 5.

The Christian Way

An outstanding treatise on Christ empowered forgiveness. To imitate Christ is to forgive. The Amish story of forgiving the murderer of their children is powerful. I say this is a must read. Our pastor rarely recommends a book from the front but thankfully he recommended this book. I’ve read many books and I would honestly say this is probably the most important one for those honestly wanting to follow Christ.

A wonderful exploration of the core of Christ’s teachings.

Powerful insights; critical analysis of the power and revolutionary teachings and modeling of Jesus Christ - for the ages and particularly for the present time. What stood out most for me is the description of forgiveness as the very essence of Jesus’ teachings. Forgiveness, like many elements of The Way provided us through Jesus’ teachings and sacrifice, demand effort and a willingness to question one’s own conceptions and comforts; perhaps more radically, to depart from dominant social expectations as did Jesus, and embark on the difficult but ultimately beautiful path of embracing His teachings in everything we do. It’s never easy, and has never been. Also - as ever - forgiveness, compassion, and the guidance given us in the Sermon On The Mount, can create the Kingdom here.

Unforgivably Redundant

This may the best book on forgiveness I've ever come across. The biblical/theological view is excellent. Illustrations outstanding in many places. Sadly, it seems as if Brian was forced to have a certain number of words by the publisher and the result is the most redundant book I have ever come across. One could take half of the copy out (probably more) and have the exact same book - only better. This seems to be the trend more and more in book publishing. Time for the industry to enter the 21st century.
