About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Brenda Novak returns to Silver Springs, where no past mistake is so big the heart can’t find a way to fix it.

Jada Brooks couldn’t have known how her life would change when she fell for bad-boy Maddox Richardson back in high school. She couldn’t have known his troubled brother would leave hers forever crippled. Or that she’d be forced to shun Maddox completely - only to discover she was carrying his child.

Although Maddox was devastated by the events that transpired that fateful night, losing Jada was the worst of it. He’s back in Silver Springs, ready to make amends and provide the kind of youth outreach that once saved him. If he’d known Jada was in town, too, he would never have come.

Jada has returned to Silver Springs to be with family after her father’s death. But when she sees Maddox, every tough decision she’s made concerning their now 12-year-old daughter begins to haunt her. Falling for him again is so tempting, but not only does she stand to alienate her family - if he finds out about Maya, she could lose what matters most.

I really like the story, but I sure did not like some of those men’s names! Every time I heard those unusual names it interrupted my thinking flow of what was going on! I always had to stop and think who is this, why did Brenda name them this?!

Very good narrator, very much appreciated, also, if she hadn’t been good, I wouldn’t have listened. Thank you for knowing the narrator makes the story in the audible books!

Seen this trope a few times. When it is done well it is good. Carried the big secret to long and had to wrap up to fast at the end. IRL I know I would have been super pissed if I were the guy and would have needed more then 5 min to get over it. Yeah I get it that she had it rough but he might as well have crawled over ground glass before going through a salt flat just to get dumped in vinegar. Then get cleaned off in alcohol.

Sorry she needed a bit more suffering for the guy. Yeah her parents were not nice but after 5 or 6 years you figure it out. Not 14.

The story is convoluted and the characters for the most part are whiny and/or despicable. There is a ton of poor me I’m a victim mentality. The mother in the story was the worst of all. I very rarely quit a book in the middle, but was truly tempted on this one. I kept reading hoping the mother would die, and the plot could turn around.
Only redemption is the exceptional narration.

Worst Brenda Novak book yet!
