About this listen

Investigator Sofia Kovic has uncovered a connection between several deaths in Oslo over the last year and a half. She tries to call her superior, Alexander Blix, but before Blix has time to return her call, Kovic is shot and killed in her own home. In the apartment below, Blix’s daughter Iselin narrowly escapes becoming the killer’s next victim.

Four days later, Blix and online crime journalist Emma Ramm are locked inside an interrogation room, facing the National Criminal Investigation Service. Blix has shot and killed a man, and Ramm saw it all happen. In the hospital, Iselin’s life hangs in the balance. Blix no longer knows who he can trust. And he’s not even certain he’s killed the right man....

I loved this book for the most part but I feel like so many parts went left unexplained and it had one of the worst endings I’ve ever experienced.

Terrible ending

I had it wrong the whole time but I feel like there were some loose ends. I wanted more lol

Definitely twisted

I enjoyed listening to this book a lot. Sad story but well written. Loved it!

Beautiful!

I really enjoyed this book, as well as the other two in the series. Thankfully, there will be at least one more (I just pre-ordered!). Although I'm not sure why Nordic characters have (variously) British and Scottish accents, the narration is excellent.

Ultimate Cliffhanger!

I’ve read all the other books in the series and have found them well written with exceptional character development and the narrator is great. The story is well defined the details and procedural drama is very good.

Good Story with exceptional narration

This installment is much more grim and dark than the first two, which I thought were very good procedurals. I would not have begun this third episode had I known just how grim and depressing it is. If “noir” is your thing, then proceed at your own risk. You might actually like it. And what the heck—it’s free after all.

Grim Norwegian noir

Nordic noir apparently means a monologue of a depressed man that goes on chapter after chapter. I just wanted Blix to die already. These writers kill off two strong women characters— one of them a family member seemingly so they can have poor old Blix wallow in his sorrow. Lessons learned: Norway really needs to do more quality control of its psychiatrists and Europeans even envy the twisted serial killers of the United States. I don’t think women writers would brutally killer so many women characters but I think it backfired because I don’t feel more sorry for Blix. It just made him look weak and narcissistic.

Scorched earth policy for female characters

I have enjoyed the previous books from Thomas and Jørn, but this time the writing style seems like an experiment in how to write a book. Multiple scenarios spread out in time do not fit my way of understanding a good story. I just get confused and will not finish this book.
