About this listen

New York Times Best Seller

A captivating exploration of deep time and humanity's search for purpose from the world-renowned physicist and best-selling author of The Elegant Universe

"Few humans share Greene’s mastery of both the latest cosmological science and English prose." (The New York Times)

Until the End of Time is Brian Greene's breathtaking new exploration of the cosmos and our quest to find meaning in the face of this vast expanse. Greene takes us on a journey from the big bang to the end of time, exploring how lasting structures formed, how life and mind emerged, and how we grapple with our existence through narrative, myth, religion, creative expression, science, the quest for truth, and a deep longing for the eternal. From particles to planets, consciousness to creativity, matter to meaning - Brian Greene allows us all to grasp and appreciate our fleeting but utterly exquisite moment in the cosmos.

Critic reviews

"Until the End of Time is encyclopedic in its ambition and its erudition, often heartbreaking.... A love letter to the ephemeral cosmic moment when everything is possible." (Dennis Overbye, The New York Times Book Review)

"Ambitious and utterly readable...[Greene] weaves personal stories, scientific ideas, concepts and facts into a delightful tapestry.... What is remarkable about Mr. Greene’s book is how he has delved into deep questions that not only have no simple answers but may never be settled at all." (Priyamvada Natarajan, The Wall Street Journal)

"There’s tremendous joy in witnessing a brilliant and curious mind wrestle with such profound issues. [Greene] takes readers on a remarkable journey." (John Keogh, Booklist)

A terrific View of The Big Picture

I am not as eloquent as some of the other reviewers. But appreciate this book for making me think deeply about burning existential questions such as humanity’s place in the universe, how life began and what is consciousness. He does not claim to have all of the answers but he certainly explains state of the art theories in a thoughtful and well researched way. I am a science believer not a science denier. The things he discusses have a scientific basis as confirmed by observation and mathematics. Very heady stuff.

Eliquant and informative

I'm sure I'd still be in science if any one of my professors of long ago, were half as articulate as Brian Greene. Thanks for writing with such beauty.

Good book for an overview of the evolution of the universe.

I thought it was a great book with lots of good overview information about what we have learned about the evolution of the universe. I expected a little deeper details, but it wove together a compelling wholistic picture.

Green's Most Interesting Work

I found this book eminently engaging, prodigiously well-written, and deeply thought-provoking. Brian clearly puts a great deal of effort into clarity of thought.

This book is the most philosophical one he's written, in my opinion. He unapologetically leaves the rigid walls of pure science in some parts to offer speculations that shake the mind from its monotonous slumber. He humbly brings the reader back within the box of reality while offering counter views to counter views and lamenting the lack of evidence.

I enjoy most the enthusiasm for discovery that Greene brings to his work. It lifts me from despair of the mundane to a world more wonderful, more majestic than those described in the most imaginative fiction.

If you like Brian Greene, you'll love this book.

Loved it.

Brian's capacity for storytelling is truly fascinating. Being a book about the universe, life, us, science, religion, the distant past and the extremely distant future, it could easily spiral out of control, but he always knows how to rein it in just at the right moment. His narration was superb, as well. I enjoyed it a lot and highly recommend.
