About this listen

In the second book in the New York Times best-selling mystery series, Veronica Mars is back with a case that will expose the hidden workings of one of Neptune's most murderous locations.

The Neptune Grand has always been the seaside town's ritziest hotel, despite the shady dealings and high-profile scandals that seem to follow its elite guests. When a woman claims that she was brutally assaulted in one of its rooms and left for dead by a staff member, the owners know that they have a potential powder keg on their hands. They turn to Veronica to disprove - or prove - the woman's story.

The case is a complicated mix of hard facts, mysterious occurrences, and uncooperative witnesses. The hotel refuses to turn over its reservation list and the victim won't divulge who she was meeting that night. Add in the facts that the attack happened months ago, the victim's memory is fuzzy, and there are holes in the hotel's surveillance system, and Veronica has a convoluted mess on her hands. As she works to fill in the missing pieces, it becomes clear that someone is lying - but who? And why?

Enjoyable.

This was my first "listen" to a Veronica Mars book and I enjoyed it thoroughly and look forward to listening/reading more in the future. Easy to follow the story and the people.

The narrator was fine

Would you be willing to try another book from Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham ? Why or why not?

I'm a fan of the TV show. As long as Rob Thomas (and Jennifer Graham) continue to churn out these books, I'll likely keep reading them so I can find out what new mysteries our witty heroine tackles, how her love life shapes up (Logan, so far away; Leo, so close), and what happens with the sheriff. These are my guilty pleasures. I make no excuses.

What does Rebecca Lowman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OF COURSE everybody who loves the VM character and listened to the first audiobook would have preferred Kristen Bell to return for the second, but honestly we all had to know that was wishful thinking, at best. Lowman does a fine job distinguishing between different characters, and once you get used to the fact that her voice is different from KB's, she draws you into the story nicely. Honestly her only flaw was that she was not Kristen Bell, and if that's going to turn you off, then don't listen. I enjoyed her reading.

We need Kristen

Where does Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

LOVED the story. Didn't love the gal who read, Rebecca Lowman. Had Kristen read it, it would have been perfect! It's not all her fault though. Veronica Mars is narrated by Kristen so it seems very un-natural to hear a voice other than hers.

What did you like best about this story?

It's well written and all the characters are present. Logan and Veronica are sweet together.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Lowman’s performances?

NO.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. I had emotions throughout.

Any additional comments?

Please, please, please re-record with Kristen Bell.

Wish it was Kristen BUT okay Story

Yes the narrator did have a monotone voice, but with good imagination and the fact that I listened to both books back to back it was a great story. Would even enjoy a 3rd book as long as the narrator has a Kristen-esc voice and vibe

V-Mars is Awesome

Great book. Not my favorite Mars story but still a must read if you are a fan of the series. I thought the audio performance was very good with several different voices for the various characters.

5 stars all around...however

I have to say after finishing the first Veronica Mars book I was taken back to the TV show and the movie and was in that mindset. So when I started this book I was instantly put back in that place until I heard the narrator's voice. Now please don't get me wrong she is a very good narrator however after watching every Veronica Mars episode on TV and the movie numerous times to not hear Kristen Bell in this second book blew me away. Because to me she is Veronica Mars and so when I started the second book right after the first book I literally had to stop listening to it for a few days because I just couldn't get used to it. Now maybe that's just me and how I see it. I think the book is great and I do think the narrator is also great I just wish that Kristen Bell would have narrated this book like she did the first. But as I said above it's a 5-star book all the way around however if Kristen Bell was doing the narration again like the first book I would have wanted to give it a 10 star rating.
