About this listen

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Here’s the best news you’ve heard all year: Not a single page disappoints....The only difficulty withTruly Madly Guilty? Putting it down." —Miami Herald

“Captivating, suspenseful…tantalizing.” —People Magazine

The new novel from Liane Moriarty, the #1
New York Times bestselling author of The Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies, and What Alice Forgot, about how sometimes we don’t appreciate how extraordinary our ordinary lives are until it’s too late.

Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One small dog. It’s just a normal weekend. What could possibly go wrong?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families.

Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other.

Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vid’s larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite.

Two months later, it won’t stop raining, and Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question:What if we hadn’t gone?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don’t say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

Great story

Started off a little slow but it is such a good book once you get through the 1st couple chapters. The narrator was fantastic and she read all the characters to their personalities so well I could vision them in my head.

Bravo Liane Moriarty and Caroline Lee

I don't know how Liane Moriarty keeps doing it! How can she have this many extraordinary books in her and when can I get another, please? The characters, the nuance in relationships, in perspective, guilt, regret, love, loss...Liane Moriarty writes these things better than anyone else.

And, I truly wish that Caroline Lee not only narrated every book I listen to but I also wish she would do voice overs in my daily life, too.

One of my favorite authors and my favorite narrator...what more can I say?

I always come to care for all of LM's characters and this group was no different. I especially hope to hear more about Vyd and Tiffany someday. I hated for the story to end and I eagerly await LM's next book!

Not quite Big Little Lies

Moriarty undoubtedly wanted to repeat the success of her last book, so she chose a similar format. There's an event that everyone is referring to and you don't find out what really happened for a while. You get most of the story halfway through the book which makes the second half a bit slow. However, there is still more to find out.

Some people complained that the world in these books is too ordinary, but that's what I like. These are characters we can recognize and identify with. No one is really a bad person but they can all do things they regret. I also like how characters sometimes feel that someone else has a better life, but when we hear from that other person, we realize they have their own challenges. I think that is how we often feel in real life - "if I had that person's job/spouse/house/life, I'd be happy", while they may be thinking the same thing about you.

Not everyone likes Caroline Lee's narration but I thought it was fine. I especially enjoyed the children, who are as bratty as real kids. There is one weird thing where a character has an accent (supposedly Slovenian) and when there is a 3rd person chapter from his point of view, Lee reads the whole chapter with the accent. I'm not sure that works.

At the end there's an interview between Lee and Moriarty.

I love this Author

At first you think it's just a simple story about everyday people and their marriage and families. There are so many intricacies woven into the telling of a barbecue get together.
Moriarty keeps you wondering what's going to happen at that barbecue.
Caroline Lee's accent adds to my enjoyment

It took forever for this book to reveal anything.

I tried reading this a couple of times. The narration was very irritating. story was boring and drawn out. I usually really like this author.

Absolutely worth a credit

Caroline Lee connects me to the characters in Moriarty's novels so well... Every character is enriched by her lovely accent and expressions which seem to have no boundaries of age or gender.

This was not my favorite LM novel but well worth the credit.

I'm captured by the strength and vulnerabilities of each character she creates and.how our differences can lead us to be judgemental or protective of a person. ... so much I enjoy about her writing

Why I absolutely love her novels is the mystery/mysteries that she builds up between the characters and main "event" of each book.
Keeps me guessing throughout and unable to stop listening no matter how much I'd like to savor the book for at least a week! Can't do it

Predictable but enjoyable

Caroline Lee gives another stellar performance! Not many surprises in the story but enjoyable nonetheless.
