About this listen

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Here’s the best news you’ve heard all year: Not a single page disappoints....The only difficulty withTruly Madly Guilty? Putting it down." —Miami Herald

“Captivating, suspenseful…tantalizing.” —People Magazine

The new novel from Liane Moriarty, the #1
New York Times bestselling author of The Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies, and What Alice Forgot, about how sometimes we don’t appreciate how extraordinary our ordinary lives are until it’s too late.

Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One small dog. It’s just a normal weekend. What could possibly go wrong?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families.

Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other.

Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vid’s larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite.

Two months later, it won’t stop raining, and Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question:What if we hadn’t gone?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don’t say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

It's good if you stick with it.

I almost didn't finish this book. I just kept waiting for something to happen. By the ending, I am glad I stuck with it. It is set in Australia. I really enjoyed the narration. It centers around the lives of 3 families. After an event takes place that they are all a part of, everyone's lives change. The author does a wonderful way of wrapping it all up. It's not a book you can guess what will happened. It is different, but I am glad I read it.

Probably one of Moriarty's worst books

Would you try another book from Liane Moriarty and/or Caroline Lee?

I have read almost all of Moriaty's books and have greatly enjoyed them. I was very disappointed by this one, though I would definitely give her another chance.

Beautiful

Once again Moriarty brings us a wonderful story with deep, complex characters in a wonderfully woven story. You will go through all of the emotions with the characters as Lee fantastically narates another tale.

Loved the story hated the narrator's voice

The story was great! Loved it, loved it so much it kept me listening thru my commute despite the narrator. I was tempted to just download and read it bc the narrator had the most annoying screechy voice, at times it went through me.

I have read the other books by this author and equally enjoy the story!!

It gets better

The story started off pretty slow, I found the a few of the characters weren't very interesting. But stick with it, it gets better! Big Little Lies is still my favorite book of hers but I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would. I would recommend it.

This author never fails

I remain hopeful that Moriarty is quickly writing another great book. The characters are dynamic and instantly relatable. Another success!

A novel that deserves patience but is worth the investment

It is true that the construction of this novel can be frustrating with so many back and forth between past and present.
We have to navigate between the day of the barbecue, the history of the the ambivalent friendship between Erica and Clementine, the struggle of Erica and her mother Sylvia, and the interference of Pam into their life. The author directs the readers through the revelations of secrets, betrayals and epiphanies. Liane Moriarty is a skilled storyteller who pulls this opus successfully.
All the characters are interesting, multidimensional and flawed in some way.
Yet, auditors and readers that persevere will be rewarded by this complex exploration of three families with their idiosyncrasies.

I enjoyed it very much

Not up to her standards

Loved it, no. very, very long book. purchased it on audio and it was over 17 hours. Narration was excellent, however I kept waiting for a thread. Yes the characters could be interesting and somwhat engaging yet I failed to see a story that engaged me as with previous books. honestly I completed the book only because I finsh every book I start and the end might redeem the book. this book did not.
