Publisher's summary

Vicksburg is the fifth book in a series of novels spanning the Civil War and describing its effects on one southern family.

In the waning months of 1862, as the Union army advances closer and closer, Cory Brannon must abandon the supply train to undertake a vital mission for Confederate General John Pemberton, the commander in charge of Vicksburg's defenses.

The Federal bombardment, illness, injury, and starvation all take their toll on the defenders of Vicksburg, forcing Cory and Lucille to face decisions that threaten not only their love but also their lives.

An amazing story with a not-good last 2 chapters

Reasoner again delivers an amazing plot, but the end (which is the conclusion of the story between Lucille and Palmer Kincaid) is quite... unecessary, to say the least. The whole book would be better without that sub-plot between the two.

Take Cover!

Yet again the winds of war find us a the centre of the action with the battle for Vicksburg and one of the Brannons are of course in the thick of it. These novels are becoming a interesting contrast of how the home life was affected by the war and the battles themselves. I'm enjoying it all immensely and with my other "listenings" (as opposed to readings!) I believe it to be fairly historically accurate.

Lloyd James appears to have a never ending selection of southern accents with each new character given a distinctive voice and as there are a cast of thousands this is no mean feat! He is doing a sterling job of narrating.

Good Story

I have enjoyed this series thru the first 5 books but have preferred the versions where multiple members of the Brannon family are involved. here we are back to one member - but the book works well. Great story about an aspect of the Civil War that we didn't learn much about in school. The Western theater was every bit as critical as the East and this book provides a better appreciation for this reality.

Outstanding---as were the first 4

All I can say is: 'when will book 6 be ready and available?' Reasoner has personalized the war of northern aggression and shown, dramatically, the effects of war on men, families and a nation.
Hurry up---I know another one is ready to be recorded!!

A splendid presentation of fact and intrigue

If you could sum up Vicksburg in three words, what would they be?

Pageless Page Turner

What was one of the most memorable moments of Vicksburg?

Many segments were memerable but the segment were Palmer receives his just rewards was the most memorable.

What does Lloyd James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lloyd James's intonations provide an interpretation of the characters that are unconveyable through reading alone. The oration contributes to the fine tale.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Vicksburg, honor and sacrifice

awesome and entertaining book.

I so impressed by this series! I can't wait for moments with it daily. it is so gripping that I find myself making excuses to escape my life to spend more time with the Brennan's as they navigate the Civil war battles and the cities they were fighting to protect.

Next Steps

The story continues from the west part of the civil war. The story was a bit predictable but still entertaining and the saga of Corey and Lucille moves on.
