Publisher's summary

Lady Anya Montgomery wakes up one day 20 years in the past, in a different body, with a controlling father, and an unwanted fiancé. Each day brings a new surprise, but she has one goal: to return to where she belongs. However, when she starts to fall in love, she wonders if she is exactly where she is supposed to be....

Danger becomes imminent, and survival may not be possible. Anya has to make a difficult decision to save the lives of two small children, and with that decision, an astronomical cost must be met. Living with the casualties from her decision might prove to be her undoing. All she's left with is the need to understand why she was sent back in time, and if she made a difference at all.

In her search, she meets someone that may have the answers she seeks and helps her to make sense of it all. Trust doesn't come easy for her, and nothing prepares her for the shocks still in store.

Unique Time-Travel Story with Tragic Twist

I read a lot of time-travel romances, and this one certainly was a different take on typical. The book was already historical, as the heroine is usually a young woman in post-World War II Britain. She goes back in time about one generation to the start of that war. She does not go back as herself. Instead, she inhabits the body of a young woman, someone acquainted with someone the heroine knew in her regular timeline, someone who is now an older woman. The heroine goes back to 1933 before all the full horrors of that war unfold, but of course, she knows what will happen. She has the sense that she has gone back for a reason. The young woman's body whom she inhabits lives a tightly controlled life under a very domineering diplomatic father who has betrothed her to a young German officer. What happens to her and a helpmeet in 1933 is shocking and tragic, and the romantic element is not the focus of the story … and certainly does not play out in typical time-travel romance fashion. A romance is kindled back in 1933 but doesn't come to fruition until later. The shocking event is tragic and will probably bring tears to your eyes—have a hanky ready!--as are so many wartime ones. The narrator did not do a good job voicing the 1933 American bodyguard, but his voicing of the hero in post-World War II Britain was delicious. I liked how this differed from the typical time-travel story, and I appreciated how the heroine felt so conflicted, both back in 1933 and what she came back to when she returned to her time. An excellent story.

Loved Everything about This Book

I loved this book and I loved the narrator. I enjoy most of Dawn Brower’s books, but this time travelers series is my favorite. This one left me wondering what I would do if I could travel back in time. Would I be brave enough to stop the atrocities I could? We all want to believe we would, but really would we?

It was well written and a fresh perspective. I enjoyed the whole thing!

Great Story

Going back in time is hard enough, but if you aren't even yourself that can make things all that much harder. Anya is stuck but when she finds an alli in a difficult time and country, she hopes that she can trust him with everything. I loved how couragous she was. The story was really catching.

Anya's story

I enjoy time travel stories. It is a bonus when it is historical or a romance time travel. This was a winning combination. The author had an interesting spin on the historical romance, time traveling to 1933. Usually time travel is within your own body/image. This was into a different person’s body and life, who she happens to know now as an old woman. The author did a good job. The narration was hit or miss, some was really good. need to read this

Anya had an accident and travelled during World War II. Her consciousness inhabited a lady named Anastasia and she lived through Anastasia's ordeals.
Then she returned to her present time and she tried to discover the truth.

Even when she came back, I was on the edge as the author dragged the story/mystery. A heartbreaking but so engrossing story.Absolutely, a captivating story. The narrator also made a great impact in this audiobook.

Sweet WWII time travel romance!

it starts off a bit slow, and I had my doubts. Then the time travel happened, and you're inexplicably in 1933. Our heroine is understandably confused, but finds purpose while she grapples with her feelings about a man she can't have.

The casting of the narrator also confused me, reminding me of Paddington Bear. I didn't understand who would cast Paddington as a lead... until they got to the time travel. That gentle tone was perfect.

If you're looking for a kind, loving story that transcends time, this is it.
