Publisher's summary

It's hard to fit in where you don't belong...particularly if you belong on a planet 2,500,000 light-years away.

Despite living on Earth for almost 30 years, Simon Armstrong knows he is not of our world.

Still, with his interplanetary mission almost over, he’ll soon be saying goodbye to a life he’s struggled to navigate and the humans he doesn’t much like. The only creature he’ll likely miss will be Merle, the antisocial cat he shares his home with.

Simon does, however, have a minor problem—he has no idea how They will orchestrate his extraction from our planet. With the threads of his earthly existence unraveling by the day, all he can do is wait patiently for a sign.

Then, with time running out, he stumbles upon a significant clue to his departure. What Simon doesn’t know is that clue could uncover a truth more arcane than any alien world.

Critic reviews

“With hints of Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant and Matt Haig’s The Humans, Pearson’s latest gem is every bit as compelling as both. A fantastic story, superbly told.” (Gillian Andrews)

Love it!

Interesting story. I thought i can guess the end but i was surprised at the end, which is a good thing. Hilarious at times, exiting at other when i couldn‘t stop listening until i knew the answer to my question. This book concludes me listening to all books of Keith on audible and i have to say i love all of them although Clement and Mungo are my favourites.

Merle the cat

I thought it was obvious how the story would go. Then there is a twist. Then another. And again. Every time there was a twist, the book resonated with me on a different level. I am glad I gave this book a try!

Great Storytelling

I'm on a Keith Pearson marathon. He's such a good storyteller. He weaves interesting plots with lots of twists and fully develops his characters. His writing style is such that he keeps the reader fully engaged at all times, always clever, and in some books he is quite humorous. I highly recommend giving him a go. (Don't miss The '86 Fix and the follow-up book!)

Waiting in the Sky

A very different theme from his other novels but just as engaging. Loved it! Thanks Mr. Pearson!

Kept waiting for something to happen…

Nothing happened, very slow ….very slow.
Nice writing….but the story went nowhere.
The narrator was excellent.
