About this listen

Toby Grant spends his days working for a digital marketing agency and his nights stressing about how unfair life is for his generation. With a 30th birthday only months away and his finances approaching meltdown, it’s fair to say Toby isn’t a happy millennial. His parents’ generation had it so much easier...or did they?

After a series of rather unfortunate events, Toby is offered an opportunity to discover exactly what life was like for his parents’ generation, courtesy of a journey back in time to 1969.

However, life in pre-decimal Britain isn’t quite as simple as Toby envisaged. And neither, as it transpires, is time travel.

Absolutely Wonderful & Engaging

WOW... Not sure how I fell upon this book, but it was absolutely fantastic. Just... WOW.
There is so much to unpack, for which my lack of attempt at explaining does better to express the depth found in this awesome book - too hard - reason why you should listen to it instead.

The time travel aspect is not the HC scifi type, so don't let this put you off.

I get the comment about the narrator pausing... or the result of the audio edit. It was weird and hard to ignore, but oddly, in the end I think it added to the overall experience. If it was a mistake, then some ingrained bias I hold made me want it to be purposeful, a tool used to add another dimension of texture - but I'm guessing the book was so good that I figured out how to trick myself into believing this.

I will absolutely share this book as a gift with friends and family. To good not to!

This was a super fun story!

I love time travel novels, and this one didn't disappoint. Actually, it was pretty perfect. There was just enough detail to make it seem realistic, but not so much detail that it read like an academic paper. Toby was really likable as a character, and I rooted for him the whole book. I listened to this one nearly straight through, and look forward to more from this author. The narrator did a great job, too. Again, the perfect balance. British enough that it was fun and authentic, but not so overly British that I couldn't understand his accent. The only glaring flaw in the book was the odd pausing in the narration. It got better as the book went on, but it was pretty bad in the beginning. Some pauses as long as 5 seconds in between paragraphs or changes in dialog. By the end, I barely noticed it (either that or I got used to it?). Anyway, 5 stars for this recommendation. Well done!

A lot of pauses in the narration

I liked the story and the narrator very much, but the production of the narration leaves a lot to be desired . Too many pregnant pauses…
