About this listen

Ryan Collier has lived a quiet life with his golden retriever, Sam, and two orange tabbies since the death of his wife nearly three years ago. Friends and family are encouraging him to move on and find someone new to share his life with, but Ryan feels he will never find someone he can love as much as his wife. Ryan reluctantly gives in and starts going out on weekends, and soon discovers that women have changed as well as the rules of dating. He's longing for a fulfilling relationship but the women he meets only want one-night stands. Then, Kristen moves in next door and he's happy to find they have a lot in common. There's only one problem - she's not available.

Kristen Foster craves a peaceful place to call home. With her stressful job as a pediatric oncology nurse and a failed marriage behind her, she doesn't want any more drama in her life. Then her casual boyfriend - a surgeon - proposes to her. And she finds that the widower next door is a 30-something, handsome man who seems to have his choice of young women every weekend. His only redeeming quality is his beautiful dog, Sam. But as she gets to know Ryan, Kristen is drawn to him. She finds herself struggling to choose between the dependable surgeon and the man she believes is the neighborhood playboy.

Can Sam's furry charm bring Ryan and Kristen together?

Walking Sam is a heartwarming story of two people who have to let go of the past in order to see what's right in front of them.

Finally! Love wins

I enjoyed this book. I'm a huge fan of the author. I was truly cheering for Kristen and Ryan. At certain points within the book, I became frustrated with those two, with the back and forth. To be fair they were both dealing with separate heartfelt issues and they both had a lot to overcome(no spoilers). I fell in love with Sam! I love dogs!!
In the end. Love wins!!

Not my favorite audible romance.

I had hopes for this one but was disappointed with narrator whose voice (male & female characters) were not up to par. Falsetto was pretty bad. The mechanics of vocabulary choices were not believable. I felt I was listening to Ned Fladers from the "Simpsons". Not real...

Sweet Romance and a Dog Too

Would you listen to Walking Sam again? Why?

I would definitely listen to this one again. It's a wonderfully sweet story about a couple of newly singles who meet over the back hedge when she becomes "the girl next door". They're both returning to the dating scene - he after the death of his wife and she after a divorce. A series of miscommunications have them each convinced that the other is neither appropriate nor available as a romantic interest, but they both love dogs and Sam, Ryan's golden retriever brings them together when Kristen offers to walk the dog from time to time.
Following the twists and turns of their growing friendship offers many warm and sometimes funny moments, and the side story of Kristen's young cancer patient will tug at your heartstrings.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a grown-up romance with mature, real, believable characters who lead ordinary lives. No models, millionaires, spies or private investigators around.

Have you listened to any of Michael Ahr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think I have, but this one is very well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's pretty long for a single sitting. I listened to it over the course of about a week - an hour or two a day.
