Publisher's summary
Everyone believes Rachel is dead. But she’s very much alive.
Rachel Scott Emery’s life unravels when she comes upon an old news article online that states she was killed 35 years ago at the age of eight. Even more shocking is her murderer was her then 16-year-old brother.
Realizing she must untangle the mess, Rachel leaves her Tallahassee, Florida, home and goes back to Casita, California, to prove she is still alive. But going home again isn’t easy. Believing that her parents had relinquished custody of her years ago to her beloved aunt and uncle, she slowly learns what really happened. And unearthing the truth, when so many in town want to leave it buried, becomes a daunting and dangerous task. What really happened the day little Rachel left town? And who is the little girl buried in the grave?

Thrown into a life of luxury she never expected, Hanna soon finds herself unwillingly matched with an SS officer twenty years her senior. Adams County, Alabama, is a friendly place where everyone knows each other—but not well enough, it seems. Someone among them is a serial killer who first romances, then stalks, kidnaps, and kills his victims. It's the first big case for sheriff Bernie Granger, and a chance to prove herself to her new partner, Memphis police detective Jim Norton. But this killer is uncannily smart. It's as if he knows what Bernie is thinking. And his next move is more than shocking—it's chillingly personal.

Nathan Murphy is pretty much resigned to his bachelor status - until he looks up from his desk to see an all-grown-up Lily walking into his classroom. Of all the women who turned out to be totally wrong for him, she's the only one who felt right. At least until his foolish, immature mistake drove her away. Story
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air.... Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one. All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Rachel?
This was a great audio especially the ending. The narrative was precise and the story really picked up towards the last few chapters. I would definitely listen to this author again.

GREAT NEW FIRST IN SERIES
I really enjoyed this first book in the Rachel Parnell/Scott series. Rachel is an intelligent protagonist without being brash or antagonistic. She is strong enough to show her vulnerability without whining. The mystery is replete with misdirection, but not overwhelmingly so. I also like Avery and hope he sticks around. Just bought book 2. Let's see how Rachel's story continues.

Unable to put down
I listened to The Truth About Rachel in one day. It is well-written and hard to put down, with a likable main character and plot twists I didn't see coming. I've read all of Deanna's books and really enjoyed this new genre. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great mystery
I loved this book. I can't wait to continue the series. Good narration. Deanna Lynn Sletton is my new favorite author after reading "The ones we leave behind."

Wow!!
Oh my goodness this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t figure out The Who and why. It less than two days to read it and now I know it’s a series I can’t wait for the next one. Deanna is such a great story teller I have read everything she has written all because I won one her books and I’ve been reading ever since. I highly highly recommend any of her books to anyone.

Sending The Book Back For A Credit
I'm only a couple of chapters in, but narration is awful! It may very well be a decent book, but I just can't get into the story when all I hear is the poor narration. She over-pronounciates. every. word. and sounds like a child reading the book...... I just can't listen to it. Sorry - needing to return it.

Decent story; horrible narration
I read the reviews and expected much better. I am baffled that anyone likes the performance. The reader does a terrible job with all the male voices. Each one comes across like they are a robot. I think she is trying to portray a deep voice by putting a space between every word. It was really hard to listen to and much of the wording sounds like it was written for a preteen audience.
The story itself is interesting and could have been really good if not for the cliched characters and juvenile interactions between the characters. I won't be listening to anything else in this series.

So much potential!
This story has so much potential! The storyline itself is suspenseful and intriguing. Unfortunately, the audio performance of the book detracts and distracts from the story! When there is narration, it sounds fine, however when there is dialogue of different characters it’s difficult to listen to at times.
