About this listen

From her Academy Award-nominated screenplays to her best-selling fiction and essays, Nora Ephron is one of America's most gifted, prolific, and versatile writers. In this classic collection of magazine articles, Ephron does what she does best: embrace American culture with love, cynicism, and unmatched wit. From tracking down the beginnings of the self-help movement to dressing down the fashion world's most powerful publication to capturing a glimpse of a legendary movie in the making, these timeless pieces tap into our enduring obsessions with celebrity, food, romance, clothes, entertainment, and sex. Whether casting her ingenious eye on renowned director Mike Nichols, Cosmopolitan magazine founder Helen Gurley Brown - or herself, as she chronicles her own beauty makeover - Ephron deftly weaves her journalistic skill with the intimate style of an essayist and the incomparable talent of a great storyteller.

Didn’t love this one as much as her others. An interesting look back at the late 60’s and early 70’s through her writing.

Didn’t love this like her others

I enjoyed listening to this collection of Nora Ephron's articles and essays. I think the only thing that would have made it better is if Nora had been the narrator. #Entertaining #Comical #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Ephron is always entertaining

As the title suggests, that’s what this is. I love Nora Efron and I miss her work every day. This is my least favorite of any of her books. The last two chapters save the entire book.

Typical collection of articles

So much of what she writes before she directed movies makes its way into the films. Even if it’s just a one little line from an interview, she saves these little moments and makes them fantastic and major moments in her movies! Her essays make me long for simpler times and simple things!

Insightful

It’s amazing how little has changed since Nora Ephron wrote these sly, smart, funny essays…

Like having lunch with your funny best friend…

Fantastic

A few good stories in here but overall felt a little dated in terms of subjects in the various pieces.

What disappointed you about Wallflower at the Orgy?

I had higher expectations for this book and so I am disappointed. I don't find her writing has anything with wit or punch. I also found the material to be dated.

What was most disappointing about Nora Ephron’s story?

Nora Ephron not a favorite of mine as I now know from trying this audiobook. I gave up about half way through.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narration was fine. I found the content lacking.

Any additional comments?

I won't be bothering with Nora Ephron again.

Not for me.

it was a waste of time listening to this. I finished only because I have enjoyed Nora Ephron. I found no value in this big, no humor, no information of value. The narration was total monotone.
Save your money and time. Get a different book.
