Publisher's summary

An explosive and unprecedented inside look at Steve Bannon's entourage of global power brokers and the hidden alliances shaping today's geopolitical upheaval.

In 2015, Bloomberg News named Steve Bannon "the most dangerous political operative in America." Since then, he has grown exponentially more powerful - and not only in the United States. In this groundbreaking and urgent account, award-winning scholar of the radical right Benjamin Teitelbaum takes listeners behind the scenes of Bannon's global campaign against modernity.

Inspired by a radical 20th-century ideology called Traditionalism, Bannon and a small group of right-wing power brokers are planning new political mobilizations on a global scale - discussed and debated in secret meetings organized by Bannon in hotel suites and private apartments in DC, Europe, and South America. Their goal? To upend the world order and reorganize geopolitics on the basis of archaic values rather than modern ideals of democracy, freedom, social progress, and human rights. Their strenuous efforts are already producing results, from the fortification of borders throughout the world and the targeting of immigrants, to the undermining of the European Union and United States governments, and the expansion of Russian influence.

Drawing from exclusive interviews with Bannon’s hidden network of far-right thinkers, years of academic research into the radical right, and with unprecedented access to the esoteric salons where they meet, Teitelbaum exposes their considerable impact on the world and their radical vision for the future.

Ambiguous Left Analysis

The writer told a very interesting story. However he struggled with his stereotype he struggled with his biased stereotypes.

Robust writing, flimsy thesis

Overall a very enjoyable book and useful for learning about traditionalism and Bannon. Author makes a lot of assumptions but is overall attempting to be objective. I don’t buy that Bannon is a full blown traditionalist based on the evidence presented here but the book is well worth digging into

The Mind and Philosophy of Steve Bannon Revealed

An excellent and well-narrated study of the philosophy called Traditionalism, which objects to modernity and advocates a return to some imagined, prior, utopian past where spirituality, nationalism, dictated gender roles and tacit racism govern separate, insular, sovereign nation-states. Reveals how this pholosophy influenced Bannon's alt-right political views. The trouble with the belief system is that modern society must first be destroyed before the "correct" spiritual enlightment is achieved. Explains much about the Bannon zeitgeist.

Overall an important work

An important and timely topic that needs to be understood. Well written and narrated.
Likes:
*seems to be a fair portrait of those studied. At least the primary public figures
*follows an understandable path

Dislikes:
*several comments made cause me to question the authors ability to properly understand this complex political topic. Example: the comment “the Tea Party which developed in response to the election of Pres. Obama”. That is an extremely over simplistic view of why the Tea Party developed. Pres. Obama was one small piece of straw in the bail of Progressive Marxism that was making a push at that time and still is to this day. The election of Obama had little to do with it. His actions made him a bigger part of the problem in time, but the TP did not come togetger in response to his election. That is simply an inaccurate view of an easy to understand and current political issue. Then other comments involving who the author calls “friends” and also events in Charlottesville come across very sympathetic to ANTIFA. ANTIFA sympathizers are rarely accurate in any political theory or knowledge of history. These types of seemingly personal bias will make me check source material with a higher than normal level of skepticism which means more time source checking and less time moving on to a new book...... unfortunate.

Overall, a suggested read I would say.
