Publisher's summary
Lara of Xy and her Warlord, Keir of the Cat, have been through much together. Lara abandoned her lands and people for love of him.
She adopted his ways and learned of his tribe. Together they have faced plague and insurgency - and despite these struggles, they have known happiness and joy.
Now they face their most arduous task: Keir must take Lara into the Heart of the Plains, and introduce her as the Warprize to the warrior-priests.
She must be tested - questioned, examined, watched - and must find favor with the warrior-priests and the tribe's elders before they will confirm her as a true Warprize.
But in Lara's heart there are doubts - for what if she is found wanting? Will Keir give up everything he knows to be with his Warprize?

Lindisfarne, AD 793. There had been portents - famine, whirlwinds, lightning from clear skies, serpents seen flying through the air. But when the raiders came, no one was prepared. They came from the North, their dragon-prowed longships gliding out of the dawn mist as they descended on the kingdom's most sacred site. It is 8th June AD 793, and with the pillage of the monastery on Lindisfarne, the Viking Age has begun. While his fellow monks flee before the Norse onslaught, one young novice stands his ground.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. Dear Listener: Season of the Sun first appeared in 1991. Zarabeth, with hair as red as an Irish sunset, is chosen by Magnus Haraldsson, a Viking on a trading visit to York, to be his wife. She is both stunned and fascinated by this man’s bluntness, his arrogance, his absolute belief that she is meant to belong to him. He also makes her laugh and ultimately she gives him her trust, not only with her future but with that of her little sister, Lotti. But Zarabeth’s stepfather, Olav the Vain, has no intention of setting a bride price on Zarabeth.

overall it was good
It wasn't bad, at all, but I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping this one would draw me in like the 1st book, to make up for the disappointment of the 2nd book, but it wasn't quite there. The story meandered in ways, kinda hard to follow at times. I'm glad a number of my questions were answered, and I was entertained. Looks like there are other books focusing on side characters, not sure what I think about that. I might try them down the road.

Wonderful conclusion to unique trilogy!
Warlord is a fitting conclusion to the Chronicles of the Warlord trilogy by Elizabeth Vaughan. This story was full of mystery, adventure, and intrigue. We have a beautiful princess and a strong honorable warlord who together fight to overcome evil and anything that threatens to destroy their dreams.
As I mentioned in my prior reviews of this series, the narrative style reminds me of the Outlander series without the novelty of time travel. Here, we have Lara, who is a healer and who is persecuted for her unique way of healing, much like Claire in Outlander. Also, Lara follows Keir to the heart of the plains, similar to Claire following Jamie to the Highlands. Once Lara arrives in the heart of the plains, she meets the Elders where she is tested to see if she is worthy of being claimed a Warprize. She is also examined by the warrior-priests who resent her healing powers. After a few skirmishes and evil plots to kill both Keir and Lara, the healing power of love, hope, and understanding prevail.
Susan Ericksen narrated this audiobook and she was simply amazing. She clearly differentiates between male and female voices and she exhibits varying emotions with aplomb. I highly recommend this book and the entire series!

wonderful read
I had read the book several years ago, so I was familiar with the story. But as a tribute to both the author and the narrator, there were scenes in which I cried (trying to avoid a spoiler here)--even though I knew what happened in a future scene in the book. Susan Ericksen creates the right tone for the series and Elizabeth Vaughan is a most talented writer.

A bad second serving
It was a crazy disjointed ride. Half made no sense. The story was all over the mat. Long sex scenes which I usually love were boring and repetitive. Dead people with more substance than the living. Its like she was throwing together a book supper from bad leftovers. Very disappointed, enjoyed the first book tremendously. Stop at one
