About this listen

In this 10th anniversary edition of We Are Our Mothers' Daughters, renowned political commentator Cokie Roberts once again examines the nature of women's roles through the illuminating lens of her personal experience. From mother to mechanic, sister to soldier, Roberts reveals how much progress has now been made and how much further we have to go.

Updated and expanded to include a diverse new cast of women, including Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Billie Jean King, and others, this collection of essays offers tremendous insight into the opportunities and challenges that women encounter today.

Looking into the future, Roberts focuses on the question of "What next?" exploring how several women have begun to define themselves in the next stages of their life.

Lindy Boggs, Cokies’s mother spoke at my Newcomb College graduation back in 1991. Her words were inspiring and heartfelt- especially the advice regarding family and work balance. Many years later, I have made a point to read everything I could from the women of this special family. After Cokie’s passing, I decided to co-listen to this book with my ten and twelve year old daughters and it has given us hours of fascinating discussion and words of wisdom. God bless you Cokie, you are such a blessing for our country.

A must read or “listen” for all women and girls!!

Even though I have known her from TV news and NPR, I didn’t realize what an amazing family from which she came.

I grew up always pausing to watch or listen when I heard Cokie's voice, considering her objective, determined, inquisitive, and the model of wit & poise while never losing her relatability or sense of humor. I found her personal take on the "role of a woman" intriguing... how we are so similar despite our outrageously differentiated circumstances. A great listen. Thought provoking.

An excellent story teller. She did her research and reported it well. She’s an excellent reader as well. I was very saddened by her death.

I enjoyed listening to this book while I walked. Reminds me to be kind to other women and ask questions without judgement about how they made it to where they are today.

Great book that stands the test of time
