Publisher's summary

Sam Meeko never thought that he’d ever get a superpower, especially one that allows him to smell everything. Everything. With his unconventional power, Sam joins forces with a group of women hellbent on getting to the bottom of a countrywide conspiracy. It’s going to take some thinking outside the box, and when that doesn’t work, Sam and his group might need to tear the walls down.

Did they actually listen to the effect of the music?

I really enjoyed this book ... except for the music. It was loud and often contrasted with the mood. The narration and voicings were delightful, and the humor was often brilliant. But the music reminded me of the old forgotten days when a cassette tape would get stuck in a car player and those songs would become the soundtrack of your life, playing over and over regardless of your desires. I hope in the sequel that they take cues from any movie, and use the music to enhance the story, rather than smother it.

Music? Really?

The story is decent. It seems written by a middle aged man with over active hormones, but it works. The performance as always was perfect. However, the music they threw in was absolutely horrible. It didn’t go along with the story line and at one point when I was driving, listening to the book, I thought I had a flat tire but it was only the music that was randomly thrown in...

A delightful production of a fun adventure

The talented cast and production team make this somewhat odd but entertaining light-hearted adventure a true pleasure. I hope the story will continue and look forward to hearing more.

Very good book

Great character development, not the standard superhero story, and an interesting world. Can’t wait for the next book.

High School Fantasy

The performances were good along with the editing.

The story read like a high schoolers fantasy. perhaps that is the audience it was going for as I am not that age.

The background to this story is there are supers and not so supers but they have powers. The not so supers are not permitted to act as crime fighters as they cannot be licensed for such. In this world, we meet several 20 somethings, at least I hope that's the supposed age, who are either playing super or wanting to.

There is one guy and three females. All the females seem to take an interest they guy for some reason that isn't clear as he doesn't seem particularly adept at anything other than smelling, which is his superpower. He can tell the future and the past with this power. How a sense of smell can determine the future is up to your imagination.

The group is all working poor with the exception of one who is basically Bruce Wayne as a girl and who just meets some of them and decides they should all live in her mansion. There is supposed to be sexual tension between two of the females and the guy but they are so blasé about it, it doesn't work. For good measure, the third girl is also crushing on him.

Fortunately, they blunder into a kid smuggling ring that supports, no kidding, vampire ninjas. The amount dead kids found in a shipping container cannot support the amount of ninjas these wannabe heros kill at the end. It's a good thing they did too otherwise the official heros had no idea how to handle the vampire ninjas and had to be shown how to do it by these pesky kids (yes Scooby-Doo reference).

Overall, it was okay. The action at the end boosted it's score. I don't think I'll be getting anymore from this author. A book with a similar plot, different power levels and only some can be supers is Super Powereds (Years 1-4) by Drew Hayes. This had believable characters that are much more complex. Year one reads a bit high school-y but I think it's intentional as they seem to mature through the years. I have no confidence the people in this book will mature.

Good story but......

Good story, very good performance, but what is with the random music? The music didn’t appear to be coordinated with the story at all! And that makes it distracting as all hell. It took away from the overall enjoyment. I don’t know who’s idea it was but they should be slapped.

LOSE THE DAMN MUIC

Good story, very enjoyable and entertaining listening. However the editor chose to add COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY MUSIC over certain parts of the story, in some areas the music was so LOUD the story couldn't even be heard. Aside from that, the story is definitely worth the price of a credit.
