About this listen
How are your survival skills?
It's the late 19th century, and you're a young English aristocrat lost in the American Southwest. A lynch mob is after you for horse theft. Irritable natives are on your trail. And the woman with you is not the type you'd bring home to your mother. Would you survive long enough to find safety? Or would you curl into a fetal position and cry?
This is where Clarence Oliver Edwards finds himself in Westward, Tally Ho! Bored with his privileged life in England and weary of the relatives who share his family estate, Clarence follows his recently dismissed butler, Guthrie, on a non-stop adventure from the busy streets of Boston to the dusty trails of Santa Fe. What begins as Guthrie's search for his long-lost daughter becomes a shocking introduction to the American West for Clarence. His idea of proper etiquette is stretched to the limit as he's bombarded with characters of all types: tough gunslingers, seductive saloon girls, crafty frontier traders, an eccentric Zuni Indian chief, and a wild hermit.
Through it all, Clarence realizes the value of loyalty and the cost of redemption. But most importantly, he discovers a degree of inner strength he never knew he possessed. Will Guthrie find his daughter? Will Clarence survive unscathed? Take a wild ride through the Old West and find out!

On the African savanna, the male lion is the lord who watches over his family, while the females of the clan do the real work. Joel “The Lyon” Lyons thought that owning a mercenary company would be similar—he could sit back and allow the Lyoness to run the Pride. Western Camp!
A fun story about an English lad and his butler on a mission in the American West. It's part camp, part campfire, and humor and action with stereotypes galore.
Performance-wise, the narrator does a decent job with creating distinct and recognizable voices. He sometimes slurs his voices into other voices, making recognition of who's speaking difficult at times.
In the middle of the book there's random crackling, popping noises, and the narrator/editor sometimes leaves quite long gaps at the end of each chapter.
Small gripes aside, this is a fun adventure that could actually stand to be turned into a series.

An Englishman in the Wild West
This is a fun read/listen featuring an immature, spoiler, high-crust English lad, and his stalwart "butler," making their way for a new life in the wild west. We have a crazy Indian chief, some no-good side-winder bad guys, a beautiful damsel in distress, and all the hi-jinx you can imagine with that combo. When I rate the "Performance" it is NOT a reflection on the narrator, instead the audio mixing sound quality. No too distracting but it didn't help the pace of the story. The Ending? Sorry no spoilers here!

Poor narrative set-up
Story line good, did Not like how the Native American were represented. The worst part was the narrator would simply Stop at the end of each chapter and then there was dead silence. I would check to see if device was not working, then finally the narrator came back stating Chapter ___ and go on. This was very disruptive to listening to the story. The storyline was basically good and the story silly but sort of fun.

Western Fun!
Looking for adventure, young Englishman Clarence Oliver Edwards joins up with his ex-butler who is headed off to America – the late 1800’s America, complete with Native American Indians on the warpath and the railroad still a work in progress and west untamed. Finding himself in trouble being chased by a lynch mob, Indians, gunslingers and many more, Clarence finds his true self and inner strength.
A delightful audiobook that has some tense moments and moments of hilarity! One first sees Clarence as a whining spoiled English wealthy brat whom his former employee, Guthrie tolerates on his mission to find his missing daughter. By the end of the novel, one does witness Clarence’s growth into adulthood.
The characters were vivid and rich, the dialog realistic that made the story advance. The characters were off a bit – the Indians, the train conductor, saloon gals just don’t fit the usual mode. Actually, all the characters were a bit “off” in a thought-provoking way that made one look at stereotypes. If one is looking for a Zane Grey or Clint Eastwood or John Wayne type Western – this is not it! This is a fantastic, oftentimes absurdly funny western genre experience written by Milo James Fowler. Fowler is vivid and rich in his descriptions painting a clear picture. Fowler has provided an entertaining story of action and adventure.
The narrator, David Blufton, performed the novel expertly. He had a firm grip on all the characters and performed them very well. This was a great pairing of a narrator to a novel!
I found it fun. I listened to this audiobook laughing out loud frequently. A great audiobook for solid fun entertainment!

A wild west comedy full of dry British humor.
Westward, Tally Ho! is exactly what one would expect from its title.
A British aristocrat follo s his Butler to the wilds west because his family is so cold and boring and hat the butler is the only one who loves him.
I loved Clarence and his Butler. Their proper ways were a hilarious e contrast to the rough settlers of the frontier.
But the story surprised me too. This is just some comedy of manners vs. wilderness. There is a plot here that has a real heart behind it. I was genuinely invested in the outcome of these characters.
The narrator, David Bufton, read very well. He gave each character a different enough voice to tell them apart without speaker tags and his brother accent was perfect for capturing the British sense of humor.
I'm sure the PC police will rail against the portrayal of the Native Americans in this story. They are portrayed very stereotypically for the time period. And I think that's the point. This isn't a history book. It's fiction.
I believe that this is actually the fiction that Clarence is writing during the course of his adventures.
I also think annoying the PC police is a plus for this author. The Chief does proudly wear a confederate flag after all.

Onward To The West
Enjoyed this book. Plenty of riotous scenes with some very interesting characters. Kept me hooked through the entire book. The narrator was good but as a couple other reviewers noted the audio sound quality has issues.

What?
I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This book was interesting and satirical. Just when I thought I was getting into a good story the satire came out. I loved that the main characters were of different stations in life but of similar dispositions. Even though the butler was not the main character he took the show for me. I loved that he not only found his daughter but his daughter and the real main character fell in love. Some of the scenes were very disturbing but I loved the last train ride and the way they were able to catch the train. That was a good scene and helped keep the 3-star rating I gave the book. Some of the scenes were too far-fetched for me. The narrator fit the story but left me hanging at times. When the scene of the main character and the lady riding into the desert and then falling off of the horse was described I was wide-eyed.with something, disbelief, what you actually wrote that or something.

Wooster and Jeeves in the Wild West
Just call this Wooster and Jeeves in the Wild West. Author Milo James Fowler writes fabulous farce. His narrator, David Bufton, provides precisely the correct (to this American's ear) accent to enhance delightfully the telling of the tale of a spoiled aristocrat and his stalwart butler in search of the butler's lurid past. Trains and horses, heroes and cowardly cravens, Indians and bad men, cattle towns and the arid western desert; all are portrayed from the viewpoint of the young adventurer seeking to follow in his father's well-journaled traveling footsteps. Plenty of western action overlaid with an eye to the absurd. Fun and funny!

Hoorah!
This is an enjoyable mix of British humor and the Old West of America. Young Clarence is bored, so he jumps at the chance to follow his Butler, Guthrie, on a sudden trek to America. Clarence doesn't have the faintest idea of why they are going or what they will encounter, but he's game for anything.
Following in his father's adventurous footsteps seems like just the thing that Clarence needs. He soon finds out that he is ill prepared for what the West is all about. The train ride that takes them from Boston to Santa Fe is full of eye-opening characters and that is just the beginning.
If you love British humor and you love Westerns, this is a good mixture of the two. You have the madam with a heart of gold, a crusty old hermit, a few bad guys, a gunslinger, and some crazy "Injuns". Living in New Mexico, I found the story fun, even though not historically (or geographically) accurate.
The narrator does a good job, but I did notice the VERRRRY LOOOOOONG pauses between the chapters. It was a little distracting and I found myself checking to see if my Kindle had quit on me on more than one occasion.
