Interesting and mysteries!

This is an interesting story filled with lots of emotion! Some sad and some happy feelings associated with this book. There are lots of secrets, mystery and surprises.
Sometimes the different timelines had me a bit confused, but it all came back together.
The book is very well written and I enjoyed the authors writing style!
The narrator does a very good job with the audiobook as well.

Thank you to Booksprout and R.M. Demeester for an audio copy of this interesting story!

I will read it

I couldn't even listen to this audiobook because the narrator was that bad. I will not leave any stars on this review because I like the author and her work. Although if I were her...I would greatly consider retaking interviews to have the book read with emotion and vigor. I purchased the book and will read it myself then leave an appropriate review on that edition.

Finding out what really happened…

Arielle was ready to end it all, but then Caleb came into her life. Then tragedy… the truth might finally be revealed five years later from a very unexpected source.

I absolutely loved the suspense and tension throughout the story. I will certainly be checking out more works by R.M. Demeester.

The narration by Ariel Williams seemed somewhat detached, but it really worked with the story.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

great job at keeping the suspense

I really liked this story.
It was engaging, and the characters were interesting. I was guessing until the end, without a clue as to the end. Great job at keeping the suspense.
The narrator was okay.

Let's figure out what Ianthe knew.

A very interesting, entertaining read. Had a hard time figuring out what Ianthe knew! Great characters. The author did take a lot of prerogative. Not sure why Caleb felt he would never see his girlfriend again and write letters to her and their unborn baby.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from Story Origin and this is my voluntary review.
The narrator does an excellent job telling the story. She reads a little too slow for my liking but very distinct and easy to follow.

Not Worth Getting to End to Learn What Ianthe Knew

At the book review site I received the promo code for this audiobook, the author called this a thriller, general thriller, or general suspense. It didn't quite meet the bar for me for any of these terms. This is now the second audiobook I've listened to by this author, and so far I'm not impressed by her writing skills in the least. She needs to do a bit more reading of the genre fiction she wishes to write as well as read some “how to write” books that provide important details about how to write good mysteries/suspense/thrillers.

This book misses key elements of general mystery as well as thrillers. For a thriller aspect to work, one important element it must have is the pivotal scene where the discoverer or victim is at the mercy of the villain. While there was a confrontational scene where the two met alone, it didn't offer any thriller spine-tingling, “what will happen now” moments. Also, the villain doesn't show up for quite a while in the book. To make it a good mystery, the villain should show up early and often, usually as a helper or support of some kind, so they are kept at the top of the reader's mind. Or, the author could have taken another way: have the reader know who the villain was while keeping the narrator/female protagonist in the dark; that’s probably my favorite route for thrillers because it ratchets up the tension every time the villain and victim interact, even if it appears to be an innocuous scene. The interactions between people felt stiff, awkward, and not remotely lifelike. The female protagonist seemed like a genuinely nice young woman; almost every other character, or at least her boyfriend's family and his friends, didn't like her. The author didn't create any sort of scene or provide backstory making that seem plausible. The book jumps around in multiple timelines, and in audiobook format, this was at times confusing.

Like the other audiobook by this author I've listened to, much of this story is told rather than shown, and a bunch of this telling takes place as flashbacks—probably the most boring way to depict pivotal scenes or moments in people's lives. The story and the characters would have been served better if the author didn't have so many timelines going at once and actually showed them as they were happening. It felt like not enough physical events happened in the story, there was not much action. We lived this story in the head of the female protagonist, bound up in her thoughts and feelings rather than her actions. Unless you have great skill and create incredibly fascinating characters, that becomes tedious rather quickly. And frankly, I found this female protagonist to be Miss Milquetoast. I don't think the narrator helped in that aspect. The narrator voices the female protagonist in a monotone that gets very old in the 5 hours in which this story unfolds. Little seems to prod the narrator out of this monotone voice, not even when the protagonist is concerned about her daughter or her own safety. Narrators can make or break a book, and in this case, this narrator did not lift a suboptimal story, as they can sometimes do, creating a performance that can just be enjoyed on its own merits. Scads of wonderful thrillers are out there, and I recommend finding a better-written one to enjoy.
