About this listen

"Intricate and nuanced - on par with the best top-flight psychological suspense." (LA Times)

International Best Seller

From master of suspense Lisa Unger comes a riveting thriller about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies.

Selena Murphy is commuting home on the train when she strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat. The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

Then the nanny disappears.

As Selena is pulled into the mystery of what happened, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, she begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she’ll discover....

Good but hard to follow

The overall story finally came together in the end, but I almost gave up. A few times, I was like, “Who is this new character? Is this the same book?”

So, good, until the end.

Great build up, and I was sitting on the edge of my seat awaiting the great whodunnit solve. I wan't a fan of this ending. It was boring and too Man bashing for me, particularly when the protagonist is a mother of 2 young sons. I was hoping for a more complex surprise me ending, but this one just fizzled out and the puzzle of bringing it the story to a true climax died.

Could not stop listening.

I am so impressed with this book and Lisa Unger. This book is so interesting and so well-paced, I couldn’t stop listening. This is a complex story with complex characters and is incredibly well done. Narration is great, too. Worth a credit if you have one to spare!

The mystery

It was overall a well written thriller, mystery. I enjoyed it. The only think lacking for me was the development of the characters. Great, creative phycological thriller. I definitely recommend.
