Publisher's summary

"Intricate and nuanced - on par with the best top-flight psychological suspense." (LA Times)

International Best Seller

From master of suspense Lisa Unger comes a riveting thriller about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies.

Selena Murphy is commuting home on the train when she strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat. The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

Then the nanny disappears.

As Selena is pulled into the mystery of what happened, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, she begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she’ll discover....

Lisa Unger at her best!

I have read most of Lisa’s books after discovering her work several years ago. This is one of her best!

Another terrific sory from Lisa Unger

Lisa Unger almost never fails me, and she sure didn't this time. Her mysteries usually involve some pretty twisty turns, and she has managed to outright shock me on occasion. The mystery wasn't too complicated this time, but the characters were outstanding, and as this author does so well, I lived the whole story with Selena, all the way to the heart-pounding climax, and to the little bit of epilogue that took us to after. I quite like the way it ended.

The narrator Vivienne Leheny was new to me, but she did a great job, I enjoyed listening. LU is always an auto-buy for me, and I look forward to whatever she has next.

Good

I enjoyed the twists to the plot and surprises along the way. Caught me by surprise and the ending not as I expected. Good book.

Very good!

Loved it. In the beginning, I had no idea where this book was going, but I loved where it took me. I found myself constantly wondering about the book until I finished it! It went somewhere completely unexpected and I love when books aren't so predictable. Very very good read.

Just Ok

Was slightly disappointed in this book. To me, it dragged. Took me forever to finish it ! The narrators voice was just too slow and boring. Sorry..

profanity warning

Good plot but way too much cussing and sexual descriptions. The story would have been just as good without all that.

Okay for throw away listen

I'm down for a far fetched, juicy, shit show plot with two dimensional characters...which is why I give this three stars. It had its moments. It held my attention enough; meaning I didn't find myself tuning it out. It's solidly okayish. The plot twists towards the end were too much, and really brought down the overall story quality. Similar plot not trying too hard to have surprise twists would have gotten four stars.

Worth listening to.

The story was engaging. The characters were well developed. I enjoyed the mystery of each character not sure how their lives were going to mingle. Really kept my interest and I look forward to listening to another book by Lisa Unger.
