Great Read

What Lies in Paradise was a great read by Leah Cupps. Sydney Evans is an Instagram Influencer who carefully curates the life everyone sees. She's excited to pose at her best friend's destination wedding. She blacks out on the plane and awakens to discover on of the other wedding guests was poisoned to death. The FBI wants to use Sydney as an insider and she takes a rookie undercover agent with her in the hopes to find out who the killer is. A deadly run-in exposes a criminal underbelly that lurked under her own seemingly perfect marriage. She has to find out who the culprit is before she is murdered next. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Romantic light listen

Sydney is a popular Instagram Influencer. Recently widowed, goes on a trip to her friend's wedding. Things get strange when she wakes up in a police station in the midst of a murder investigation.

The book was a fun and light romantic story with an element of mystery and thriller. It kind of reminded me of some of my favourite Nora Roberts romantic thrillers. I quite liked most aspects of it. I didnt like the fact that the story was quite predictable. The climax seemed rushed and left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

Jennifer provided a good performance. She has good energy, is well spoken and her voice is quite pleasant to listen to.

Overall, the book was not bad. Its a quick light listen that will help take your mind off the stresses of life.

Note: This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this objective review voluntarily.

Decent Easy Listen

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I'd give this audiobook an easy 3.5. There really isn't anything negative I can say about the story aside from having a rom-com mixed in. I generally don't like rom-coms, let alone in thrillers and mysteries. That being said, I still expected a thriller and I felt like this was more of a journey in self-discovery. It's an easy, quick listen and the attitudes of the characters were distinct enough to keep things balanced and interesting. I did like, in the end, Sydney realizes the perfection she displayed on social media left her feeling empty, so it was nice to see some light shed on the dark side of social media platforms. But I was, overall, left with wanting more danger and intrigue, not name brands and daydreaming about potential love interests after being drugged. It kept me interested enough to want to know how it ended, but didn't leave much of a "thriller" impression.

Such a fun, fast paced listen!

What Lies in Paradise by Leah Cupps was such a fun, fast-paced mystery. Though it took a little bit of time to really get me hooked, once I was, I couldn't stop listening. I think it was when Sydney got to the island that things really picked up. Though a little predictable in parts, this was such a fun story that centers around a murder on the way to a wedding. Sydney is detained while traveling and ends up attending her brother-in-law's (her husband recently passed away) wedding with FBI agent Alex as her date. Like I said, once things get going, it's a non-stop listen and I would love to listen to more stories by this author. I'd recommend this book if you're in the mood for a good, fast, fun murder mystery/thriller.

Jennifer Groberg did a good job narrating this story. The characters had their own unique voices and I never had any problem figuring out who was speaking. She was easy to listen to and read with the perfect amount of emotion when needed. I'd definitely listen to more of her narrations in the future! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
